Arshad Ayub elected HCA president

Former Minister and incumbent president of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) G. Vinod has been eased out of the post and in his place, the vice-president and ex-Test cricketer Arshad Ayub has been elected as the president.

The HCA Executive Committee, which meet here on Wednesday morning, decided to ease out Mr. Vinod. This decision has to be ratified by the annual general meeting scheduled to be held on August 22. Mr. Vinod had earlier requested postponement of the meeting claiming he was busy with the Assembly byelections where he is contesting from Chennur in Adilabad district.

However, the HCA top brass felt that the meeting was long due and in the wake of the latest High Court order clearing all legal hurdles, it did not want to waste any more time. The other significant decision taken at the meeting was to hold the general body meeting where elections to various posts will also be held.

The EC also named senior IAS officer Jayesh Ranjan as the returning officer for the poll. “We have to go ahead with the meeting as the term of the office-bearers (except that of secretary) has effectively ended on May 31,” explained a senior official of HCA.

EC to go by guidelines

“We are aware Mr. Vinod is seeking a third extension of another two years as president, but a majority in the EC felt it was time we followed the guidelines,” he said.

However, there is no clarity yet on the secretary’s post as the incumbent M. V. Sridhar is yet to return from South Africa where his employers, Mahindra Satyam were associated as IT service providers to the just-concluded World Cup soccer.
