Mysore :

Two new meet records were set (one in the men’s and one in the women’s section), on day 2 of the three-day 86th annual University of Mysore Inter-Collegiate Athletic Meet, at the University Athletic Ground (Oval Ground) here yesterday.

In the day’s first event, C.M. Sowmya of Bharathi College created a new meet record in the women’s 5km walk with a timing of 31:47.23 sec, erasing the previous record of 32:28.00 sec set by Uniza Tasmeen of Teresian College in 1996-97. K.N. Akshatha and B.K. Asha secured the second and third places respectively.

T.S. Ravi, a final year M.Ped student, representing PGSC, Mysore, created a new meet record in the men’s High Jump with a clearance of 1.87mts erasing the old record of 1.86mtrs set by Bensin Joseph of UCPE, Mysore in 1997-98. Jagadish and B.R. Ravikumar secured the second and third places respectively.

H.P. Sunil of Govt. Home Science College, Holenarasipur, with a excellent final burst emerged as the fastest man of the meet by winning the 100 mts event with a timing of 11.04 sec. K.P. Sumanth (11.30 sec) and Suhas S. Gowda (11.51 sec) secured the second and third places respectively.

At the end of the second day, Post Graduate Sports Council, Manasagangotri, with 66 points lead the points table in the men’s section, while Bharathi College, Bharathinagar with 52 points lead in the women’s section.
