LU declared names of the 15 students who will be conferred medals at its convocation ceremony on November 26.

Mohd Aiyub Ahmad, son of a vegetable vendor, has bagged the bronze medal for being the best student in BSc final year while a spray painter’s daughter Iqra Rizwan Warsi of Karamat Husain Muslim Girls PG College bagged it for being the best student in BA final year.

The families of both Aiyub and Iqra went through deep financial struggles during the pandemic.

Tryst with hardships motivated awardees | Lucknow News - Times of India

“My father Rasheed Ahmad is my biggest source of inspiration . Even after facing financial challenges during the two Covid waves, he made sure that I was never short of study material or internet pack. There was a time when no one was turning up at Chowk Mandi and he sold vegetables at throwaway price,” said Aiyub.

“The tough times we went through will continue to motivate me forever. I aim to pursue research in the field of electronics and make my parents proud one day,” he added.

Sharing details of similar hardships, Iqra said, “My father Rizwan Warsi lost his work as a spray painter during the pandemic, but he didn’t give up. He started selling masks while my mother Tarannum began stitching masks and clothes to make sure the education of their four children continues.I aim to become an Urdu professor and will make my parents proud one day,” she said.

Meanwhile, the two chancellors’ silver medals awarded in diferent categories were bagged by MSc student Labvi Shukla. “I want to work for financially weak students who are forced to drop out due to poverty.

According to Iqra, mother Tarannum Warsi is a homemaker who always boosted morale.

Iqra said that “The financial condition of the house is not good. The situation was even more difficult during the Covid period. Mother used to stitch masks. My Father Rizwan used to sell them outside hospitals. Even now the situation has not changed much.”

We are four siblings, in which I am the eldest. Three siblings are younger than me. I am pursuing masters, my parents have supported me a lot. My Parents struggled in every way and studied and today i am gold medalist.

Iqra’s father said that, “I sell masks and sometimes other items by hawking to make arrangements for the livelihood of the children. Now the son has also started doing a private job, which earns him Rs 4,000 a month.” Somehow, two-time livelihood and children’s education fees are arranged.”

Develop Expertise In Contemporary Sciences With Proficiency In Muslim Islamic Studies: Fazl-ur-Rahim Mujaddadi

Jaipur, RAJASTHAN:

Jaipur:

“With the advent of modern science and technology, there has been a revolution in the world wherein changes are taking place at a very fast pace. There is no corner of life that is not affected by science and technology with the invention of Internet along with other technological sciences which have forced individuals and nations to bring about change within them, with the change of the time.

“While changing oneself is no longer optional but has become a necessity today I am reminded of the historic saying of Hazrat Maulana Shah Muhammad Abdul Rahim Sahib Naqshbandi Mujaddadi, the founder of Jamea-tul-Hidayah in Jaipur, that today the change in the curriculum of madaris and the inclusion of modern sciences is optional but tomorrow such a time will come that then it would be mandatory rather than optional”.

“Hazrat Abdul Rahim Mujaddadi felt this far-reaching vision 40 years ago, but it is a pity that the madaris did not pay attention to his voice then. However, today the management committees of all the madaris are feeling the need to change their curriculum forced by the requirements of the present day times. As such they have taken steps towards the inclusion of modern sciences in their curriculum”.

These above thoughts were expressed by Maulana Muhammad Fazl-ur-Rahim Mujaddidi, the present rector and son of the founder Jamea-tul-Hidayah, while addressing Azmat-e-Qur’an Conference which was held on 12th January 2023 at Shaghafta Ehsan Hall here. He addressed Ulema, intellectual Muslims from all over the country, and Imams of mosques and principals of the city of Jaipur.

Maulana Fazl-ur-Rahim Mujaddidi said Jamea-tul-Hidayah Jaipur in its curriculum has included Qur’an and Hadith, Islamic jurisprudence, Seerat-un-Nabi, History, Arabic language and literature as well as keeping in view the requirements of the modern times contemporary sciences such as geography, mathematics, English, Hindi language etc.

Continuing Maulana Mujaddidi said that for students to be self-sufficient in their livelihood, technical education has also been made part of the curriculum. While keeping in view the demands of the modern times, Jamea has started many new courses. One of them is a one-year online English speaking course for graduates of Madaris, wherein not only Indian but also students from abroad are benefiting from this.

He informed that in the near future an online course of Hindi language will also be started for Madaris graduates. For this Jamea-tul-Hidaya, in collaboration with Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has decided to start a course of Hindi language & literature and the Indian society. Thereby, the Madaris graduates will get employment opportunities and they will also be able in create inter-religious harmony and clear doubts and misunderstandings amongst communities. The national language of India is Hindi, so learning Hindi and getting acquainted with India’s religious communities is a social necessity and a religious responsibility of Ulema.

Maulana Mujaddadi drawing attention of Muslims towards modern education advised them to establish institutions of professional courses including medical education. He said that the Qur’an has been revealed for humanity till the Day of Judgment. It is our responsibility to convey its message to all mankind. Today doubts, suspicions and misunderstandings against Islam and Muslims are being spread through various sources and means. “We should come forward to clear the air through our character, moral values and might of the pen. Islam does not create hurdles and stops us from acquiring modern knowledge. Moreover, our forefathers were leading the world in these scientific inventions”, he revealed.

He pointed out that during the dark ages of medieval Europe; incredible scientific advances were made in the Muslim world. “Our Genius ancestors in Baghdad, Cairo, Damascus and Cordoba took on the scholarly works of ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia, Greece, India and China, developing what we would call “modern” science. Muslim mathematicians such as Al-Khwarizmi, Avicenna and Jamshīd al-Kāshī made advances in Algebra, Trigonometry, geometry and Arabic numerals as well as major advances in medicine, astronomy, engineering and agriculture. Arabic texts replaced Greek as the fonts of wisdom, helping to shape the scientific revolution of the Renaissance”, he disclosed.

‘Aalami Muzahira-e-Qirat’

Meanwhile, Maulana Mujaddadi announced on the occasion that Jamea-tul-Hidaya will be organising an “Aalami Muzahira-e-Qirat” (Global Demonstration of Qur’an Recitation) in Jaipur on 28th January, 2023. After Maghrib prayer, the international gathering of Qaris of repute will assemble to demonstrate their art. In this programme renowned Qari Shaikh Abdul Nasir Harak of Egypt along with well-known Qaris of the country will be participating.

While inviting Muslims from all over Rajasthan to participate in the grand event he said: “Qur’an the word of Allah, is the ultimate source of guidance for mankind, the creator of the universe, which is no less than a blessing in terms of its sound and beauty.

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) had said: “Embellish the Qur’an with your voices”. This is a very beautiful, inspiring and eloquent phrase that came out of the pure language of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa Ash’ari that one day the Holy Prophet (PBUH), said to me: “I was listening to your Quran recitation at night. I said, O’ Messenger of Allah, if I had known that the Holy Prophet was listening, I would have recited it with excellence”. (Sahih Ibn Hibban: 3513)

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) taught his Companions (Sahaba) the meaning and knowledge of the Holy Qur’an as well as taught them how to recite the Holy Qur’an correctly while following the rules of Tajweed. The Holy Prophet blessed four of his companions with the knowledge of recitation, and ordered the common companions to learn the Qur’an from them. These four companions were Abdullah bin Masoud, Salim Mawla Huzaifah, Mu’adh bin Jabal and Ubi Ibn Ka’ab.

The Holy Qur’an is a book of guidance, love, connection and devotion to it is a part of Islamic faith and a sign of being a Muslim. The teaching of the Holy Qur’an, its publication, and the desire to recite it and listen to the Quran remain in the heart of every believer. He considers it as a means of his happiness and salvation in the Hereafter.

Hyderabad loses a great historian in the passing away of M.A. Qaiyum

Hyderabad, TELANGANA:

Hyderabad:

A good archaeologist needs both research and writing skills. M.A. Qaiyum, who passed away on Thursday night, had these qualities in equal measure. But he wrote more than he excavated.

Archaeology holds the key to understanding who we are and where we come from. In that sense, Qaiyum had all the answers to who, what, where, when, how and why.

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that he knew Hyderabad like the back of his hand. A walking encyclopaedia indeed as far as Hyderabad goes. Qaiyum also had thorough knowledge and wrote extensively about Mughal and Deccan history. No wonder he explained the initials of his name as: Mughal, Asafjahi and Qutb Shahi.

The noted archaeologist died at a hospital in Banjara Hills where he was admitted for fever and lung infection. He suffered a massive heart attack around 8.30 p.m on Thursday night. But doctors succeeded in reviving him through (CPR), Cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedure. After some time he suffered another attack and passed away. Two days ago when he was taken out from ICU, Qaiyum kept speaking in English to the surprise of the doctors and his family members. He spoke mostly about Hyderabad, its history and the Department of Archaeology. “He breathed his last peacefully with a smile on his face”, said his son, M.A. Basith.

Qaiyum was 76 and is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter. His funeral prayers were held at Masjid-e-Suffa, Janki Nagar and the mortal remains were laid to rest at the graveyard in First Lancer.
Qaiyum joined the Department of Archaeology and Museums in 1965 as Assistant Director and retired in 2004 as Deputy Director. During his long service lasting 39 years he gained firsthand knowledge about the Qutb Shahi, Mughal and Asaf Jahi architecture along with historical background of those periods. He also had thorough knowledge about the Chalukyan, Kakatiyan and Buddhist monuments situated in the combined Andhra Pradesh.

With his death, the city has lost an important historian. A few months ago another great historian of Hyderabad, M.A. Nayeem, had passed away.

What was unique about Qaiyum was that he was not the run-of-the-mill archaeologist. Nor was he the typical nine-to-five officer. He went beyond the call of duty and engaged himself in delving into the past. As Deputy Director, Department of Archaeology and Museums, he researched and wrote extensively.

Even after retirement his passion for history and heritage did not wane. In fact he wrote two books – one on Charminar and another on Taj Mahal. His knowledge and experience came handy in identification and protection of sites of heritage and archaeological value. “Like all cities Hyderabad too is caught in a time-wrap,” he used to say and called for sustained efforts to retain its rich past.

Years after his retirement, the Archaeology Department took his services in preparing a database of all antiquities and archaeological findings in the State. Qaiyum helped in preparation of archaeological resources in terms of built heritage, sites and antiquities right from Badshahi Ashoorkhana to Makkah Masjid, Paigah Tombs, Hayat Bakshi Mosque, Monsieur Raymond Tomb and Gun Foundry.

Qaiyum had a sharp eye for artefacts. When everyone preferred to relax on Sundays, he would visit Charminar and its surroundings looking for rare objects and books. And he hit pay dirt every time he went out. Qaiyum has a good collection of historical books and rare objects. Once he stumbled upon a 450 year old copper coin minted during the time of Ibrahim Qutb Shah. Coins of the third Qutb Shahi ruler are not to be found even in the A.P. State Museum, which boasts of thousands of copper coins. And Qaiyum got it for a song on the Old City pavement.

Unlike other archaeologists, Qaiyum took pains to write about his findings. He is perhaps the only archaeologist who wrote a comprehensive book on Hyderabad’s famous icon, Charminar. The book –Charminar in Replica of Paradise – throws light on monuments all over the world which sport ‘minars’ to explain the concept of minarets. In this book Qaiyum also explains the magic of  ‘four’ in Charminar. He explains in detail the geometric combinations and mathematical reasoning that went into the construction of Charminar. The number ‘char’ (four) and its multiples, according to him, figure in the design of the structure. He discovered at least 22 spots where the magic of four dazzles.

Such was his knowledge about the Hyderabad monuments that he was invariably deputed as a guide to conduct the VVIP’s visits to historical landmarks like Charminar, Golconda Fort and the royal mausoleums of Qutb Shahi kings. He had the privilege of showing the historical monuments to Queen Elizabeth in 1983, Prince Charles and Princesses Diana in 1992, Boris Johnson, then British Foreign Secretary, film star, Dilip Kumar, Turkish novelist and Nobel Prize winner, Orhan Pamuk.

Qaiyum had the knack of surprising foreign delegates by pointing out the historical connection of India and Hyderabad with their countries.

A voracious reader, Qaiyum authored five books in all. His first book “Hyderabad – Tab Aur Ab (Hyderabad – Then and Now) was published by the Siasat Daily. Then he came up with another book – Great Achievements of Turks in India. He also penned a comprehensive book on Charminar followed by Khas Mahal to Taj Mahal. This apart he published hundreds of research articles on Mughal and Hyderabad monuments.

In his death, Hyderabad has lost a great historian who immensely loved the city of his birth.

Kashmir: 12th graders Abid and Danish make a model to demystify math

JAMMU & KASHMIR:

New Delhi

Kashmir’s Abid Fayaz and Danish Mushtaq, the class 12 students, have developed a model to make mathematics learning easy.

Their model resembles a wooden box with angles marked on it. It can be used as such and also online. In the latter mode, it has to be connected to a mobile phone application, which is further connected to a Wireless Local Area Network.

According to the Kashmir Life portal, the application provides a variety of options related to the properties of angles like corresponding angles, opposite angles, etc. The model works by highlighting the angles on the board when a user selects an option in the application.

This model will give students a better understanding of the properties of the angles, especially for middle and high school level students.

Abid and Danish are students in 12th standard at the Boys Higher Secondary School, Zainakote with mathematics as the main subject.

“Since childhood, I struggled with mathematics and could never understand concepts like angles and triangles. However, in eighth grade, something changed and I began to enjoy the subject. I attribute this to my math teacher, who helped me understand the fundamentals of the subject so that by the time I reached class ten, I was more proficient than ever,” Abid Fayaz told Kashmir Life.

“Maths being a non-practical subject and triangles being the toughest chapter at the school level is the real reason why many students fear the subject. This is where the idea of model piqued in my mind,” he said.

Abid says he has always been inclined toward science and innovation.

It took the duo two years to make the final product and they are still working on improving its design.

“We shared the idea with our teachers at our school. They motivated us to participate in the science exhibition where we showcased the basic version of our model for the first time,” said Abid.

“Initially I started to use this model for teaching my cousins and the outcomes were good. This is where we decided to make it better and modify it as it can help the students to learn maths. Danish helped me equally throughout my journey.”

During an event of the Jammu and Kashmir State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), the duo was appreciated by the Union Territory government for their efforts in creating this mathematical model. They also presented the model at DIET Srinagar where they were appreciated for their work.
