Meet Captain Sariya Abbasi, A Troop Commander Army Air Defence Regiment

Gorakhpur, UTTAR PRADESH:

Captain Sariya Abbasi, a troop commander with an Army Air Defence Regiment deployed near the contested LAC in Tawang sector. Her unit is one of the first AD regiments in the country to be equipped with upgraded L70 guns.

Captain Abbasi has been a part of the Indian Army for four years now and is currently posted in the Tawang region of Arunachal Pradesh, on the Line of Actual Control (LAC). She came in the headlines as she spoke to media outlets about the recently deployed upgraded L-70 air defence guns.

Sariya Abbasi belongs from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh and she has a B.Tech degree in Biotechnology. Her father, Dr Tehseen Abbasi, is a retired station director from All India Radio while her mother is serving as a principal in a government school in Gorakhpur.

Powerlifting champion Sadiya Almas felicitated

Mangalgiri (Guntur District), ANDHRA PRADESH:

Sadiya Almas was awarded the title of the strong girl of India in National powerlifting championship 2020 held in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.

Vijayawada : 

Shaik Sadiya Almas, who secured a gold medal in powerlifting during the Asian Powerlifting Championship held in Turkey, recently, was felicitated by the Muslim Development Society at a programme here on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Sadiya Almas credited her parents for winning the medals at the championship.
“So far, I have achieved only a little in my career and I am working hard to achieve a lot with the support of my family and coach. I will bring more laurels to the country and inspire youngsters,” Sadiya said. She also appealed to the government to provide necessary funds for upgrading the gym at Mangalagiri and make it accessible for more youngsters.

The powerlifter secured the first place in Asian Powerlifting Championship held in Rajasthan in 2018. She also secured the first place in Junior State Championship held in Anakapalle in 2018. She secured ninth place in the Senior national Powerlifting Championship held at Sattenapalli in 2018. She was awarded the title of ‘Strong Girl of Andhra Pradesh’ in 64 SGF State Championship held in Nandigama in 2018.

Sadiya Almas won fifth place in Junior National Championship in Kerala in 2019 and got third place in Federation Cup Championship held in Indore, MP in 2019. Sadiya was awarded the title of ‘Strong girl of South India’ in the South India Powerlifting Championship held in 2019-20 in Hyderabad. She was awarded the title of the strong girl of India in the National powerlifting championship 2020 held in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.

Nazira girl Sheikh Raisha Tabassum appointed as State Secretary of BJP’s youth wing (BJYM), Delhi Pradesh

Sheikh Raisha Tabassum from Nazira in Sivasagar district has been appointed as the youngest State Secretary of BJP’s youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Delhi Pradesh.

Sheikh Raisha Tabassum from Nazira in Sivasagar district has been appointed as the youngest State Secretary of BJP’s youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Delhi Pradesh.

A graduate with honours in Political Science honours from Hindu College, University of Delhi, 20-year-old Sheikh Raisha is also the founder of ‘El Jeffa Foundation’ — a national NGO working with the United Nations in various parts of India.

Previously, Sheikh Raisha was also the State Secretary of the ABVP Delhi’s North East Cell, in-charge of the ‘Slum School Project’ under ‘Students For Seva’, ABVP where she focused on educating 300+ Muslim underprivileged children in Delhi.

The BJP has given her the responsibility to work for the welfare of the minority community with focus on the youth of the north-eastern region.

Sheikh Raisha is also a recipient of the prestigious SKOCH Yuva award. She was also nominated for the ‘Karmaveer Chakra Awards’ constituted by confederation of Indian NGOs & UN.

Sheikh Raisha is the daughter of Hamida Rahman, a teacher by profession of Nazira Na-mati.

Journalist Rana Ayyub receives US’s highest press freedom award

Mumbai, INDIA / U.S.A. :

Indian Journalist Rana Ayyub was awarded the International John Aubuchon 2022. She was honoured with the award by the National Press Club of Washington DC and the Aubuchon is the Club’s highest honor for press freedom.

National Press Club President Jen Judson and National Press Club Journalism Institute President Gil Klein said, “We are pleased to name Rana Ayyub the 2022 John Aubuchon Award International Honoree. Ms. Ayyub’s courage and skill in investigative work has been evident throughout her distinguished career and her criticism of the government has been met with an unwelcome assault on her rights and freedom of expression.”

Later, Ayyub, in her statement on Twitter, thanked the Press Club and said that “it is a testing time for journalism in India”.

She further added: “Huge honour to receive this award, the first ever for an Indian.”

Ayyub dedicated the award to her colleagues who are lying in different prisons across the country. “Dedicating this to my colleagues Mohd. Zubair, Siddique Kappan and Asif Sultan, incarcerated for speaking truth to power,” she said.

Sania Mirza-Shuai Zhang win Ostrava Open women’s doubles title

Sania Mirza won her first title of the season as she and her Chinese partner Shuai Zhang beat the pair of Kaitlyn Christian and Erin Routliffe in the women’s doubles final of the Ostrava Open on Sunday.

The second seeded Indo-Chinese duo defeated the third seeded pair of American Christian and New Zealander Routliffe 6-3 6-2 in the summit clash in one hour and four minutes.

The 34-year-old Sania and Zhang had defeated the Japanese pair 6-2 7-5 in the semifinals of the WTA 500 event.

It was Sania’s second final of the season, following a runner-up finish at the WTA 250 Cleveland event in the USA last month with Chirstina Mchale.
