The Bearys Group has made a clean sweep at the World Safety Organisation (WSO) India Awards 2025, winning three major recognitions for its excellence in safety, sustainability, and leadership.
At the 6th Annual WSO India OHS&E Professional Development Symposium and the 4th edition of the WSO India (State) Level OHS&E Awards held at The Lalit, Mumbai, on October 14, the Group emerged as one of the top performers in the country.
Among the winners was the NTT Data Center (DC2B) in Ambattur, Chennai, developed by Bearys, which received the Platinum 5-Star Award for “Most Outstanding Performance in Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (OHS&E)” the highest recognition in its category.
Another project, the NTT Data Center (NAV1C) in Mahape, Navi Mumbai, also developed by Bearys, won the Gold 4-Star Award for “Outstanding Performance in OHS&E.”
In addition to these project-level awards, Syed Mohamed Beary, Founder and CMD of Bearys Group, was conferred with the “Individual Achievement in Leadership” award by WSO India. The honour acknowledges his “exemplary leadership, sustainability-driven vision, and lifelong contribution to creating safer, greener, and smarter built environments.”
Terming the recognitions as a “hat-trick of excellence,” Bearys Group said in a statement that the awards reaffirm its commitment to “Building for a Sustainable Tomorrow,” where innovation, integrity, and safety remain the foundation of all its endeavours.
The triple win marks another milestone in the Group’s long-standing pursuit of sustainable and safe development practices across its projects nationwide.
Dr Syed Amjed Ahmed, a pioneering communication scholar and educator who shaped generations of journalists, media professionals, and educators, passed away in Bengaluru at the age of 76. Known for his deep patience, open-minded teaching, and visionary contributions to educational broadcasting, Dr Amjed’s passing marks the end of an era in Indian media education.
Throughout his career, Dr Amjed transformed the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at the University of Calicut into a nationally recognised centre of excellence. His students today occupy senior positions in journalism, advertising, public relations, technical communication, and academia across India and abroad. A true academic innovator, he was among the first to identify technical writing as a viable career for communication graduates, long before the digital revolution took hold.
A man of science and sensitivity, Dr Amjed earned a Master’s in Geology and an MS in Communication from Bangalore University before dedicating his life to teaching in Kerala.
As the founding director of the Audio Visual Research Centre (AVRC) at Calicut University, he led the institution to national acclaim by producing award-winning educational documentaries for the University Grants Commission. One such production, which featured real visuals of an open-heart surgery from the Sri Chitra Tirunal Institute in Trivandrum, became a landmark in educational media and inspired other AVRCs to embrace creative and visual storytelling.
Colleagues recall that he navigated multiple bureaucratic and institutional hurdles with quiet resilience. His leadership combined administrative acumen with human warmth, ensuring that the AVRC became both technologically forward and academically rigorous.
As a teacher, Dr Amjed believed in dialogue over dictation. His classroom was a space of debate, reflection, and dissent. He encouraged students to think critically, question conventions, and link theory to experience. If a student disagreed or even displayed anger, he would listen calmly and respond with logic and empathy. He believed that listening was central to education and that disagreement was an essential ingredient of learning.
His contributions extended beyond pedagogy. He introduced round-the-clock PTI teleprinter services for journalism training, built a best-in-class media library, and installed one of the earliest Apple Macintosh DTP systems for hands-on experience in editing and design. His work ethic inspired students and colleagues alike, while his humility kept him grounded despite his many accomplishments.
Those who knew him describe him as a rare educator who never used authority to impose discipline, but empathy to earn respect. Even as a department head, he supported student activism and believed that education must nurture conviction alongside competence.
For his students and peers, Dr Amjed was not just a teacher but a lifelong mentor, guide, and friend. His influence on media education in India endures through the thousands he taught and inspired to think independently, act ethically, and communicate truthfully.

A career guidance session titled “Exploring Careers in Defence: Opportunities and Preparation” was held at Bearys Academy of Learning (BAL), Bearys Knowledge Campus, Innoli, on Sunday, October 12, 2025. The programme aimed to guide and motivate students from diverse academic streams to explore career opportunities in the Indian defence services.
The session was inaugurated by Syed Mohamed Beary, Chairman of Bearys Academy of Learning, who delivered the opening remarks. He highlighted the valuable work done by Anees Kutty, Founder and Director of Anees Defence Career Institute (ADCI), Pune, in mentoring and preparing youth for careers in the armed forces.
Beary observed that many young graduates from Mangaluru often seek employment in Gulf countries after completing their studies. Drawing a comparison between conventional jobs and defence careers, he said that serving in the armed forces brings immense pride not only to the individual but also to the entire family.
He further remarked that a majority of personnel in the Indian defence forces hail from northern parts of the country, and it is time for youth from southern India, particularly from Dakshina Kannada to take active interest in this sector. Citing the example of Kodagu, a region known for its significant representation in the armed forces, he urged students from the coastal belt to follow suit. He also encouraged female students to explore various roles and opportunities available in the defence sector.
The keynote session was conducted by Anees Kutty, who has over 36 years of experience as a Defence Career Counsellor. Through a detailed two-hour interactive presentation, he explained different career pathways in the defence sector, covering examinations such as NDA, CDS, AFCAT, and SSB, and discussed career prospects in premier institutions like ISRO, DRDO, Agniveer, RMS, RIMC, and Sainik Schools.
Kutty also elaborated on how various engineering specializations can help candidates qualify for technical and research roles within the defence services. He highlighted the scholarships and government-sponsored programmes available for aspiring candidates, emphasizing that both the government and the defence forces provide financial and institutional support for education and training before official recruitment.
He reminded students that success in the defence sector demands passion, consistency, and perseverance, noting that the preparation process is long and requires dedication and discipline.
In his concluding remarks and presidential address, Syed Mohamed Beary announced three major commitments for Bearys Academy of Learning: Establishment of a National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit at the campus, Appointment of a Colonel as campus administrator, who will also provide SSB training to students, Setting up of a Defence Career Counselling Centre within the campus to assist students aspiring for defence services.

Ishaan Madesh, a seven-time National champion across various categories, held off his sibling Rohaan in both the Pre-Finals and Finals in the Senior Max class for a grand double in the second round of the MECO-FMSCI National Karting Championship Rotax Max Classes at the CoASTT circuit in Coimbatore on Sunday.
Shonal Kunimal from Kozhikode (Birel Art India) and Pune’s Arafat Sheikh (Crest Motorsports) won the Finals and the Pre-Finals respectively in the Junior Max category.
Expectedly, Chennai’s Rivaan Dev Preetham (MSPORT) dominated the newly introduced Mini Max category, winning both the Finals and the Pre-Finals to complete a double, as did Shiv Tummala from Bengaluru (Peregrine Racing), who was an equally facile winner in the Micro Max class, where he comfortably held off his rivals.
Fikrokhabar, a news portal based in Bhatkal, has announced its Online Naat Competition 2025, inviting children from coastal Karnataka to take part in the programme during the holy month of Rabi al-Awwal.
The initiative is aimed at celebrating the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad by encouraging children to express their devotion through Naat recitation.
According to the organisers, the contest has been designed to nurture both the spiritual and creative growth of children by giving them a platform to present Naats in a digital format. The online mode ensures easy access and wider participation across the region.
The competition is open to boys up to the age of 13 years and girls up to the age of 8 years.
Participants are required to record a video of their recital, which should not exceed three minutes, and submit it through the Google Form link shared by the organisers.
The event has been divided into categories based on age and gender to ensure fair participation.
The organisers said that the programme is not merely a contest but also an opportunity for children to learn more about the life of the Prophet, strengthen their faith, and showcase their talent before a larger audience. It also encourages memorisation and thoughtful reflection on poetic tributes dedicated to the Prophet, fostering deeper appreciation of Islamic teachings.

Ateeb Inamdar from Vijayapura believes that the best charity anyone can do is donating blood. And, he’s clearly on a life-saving mission…
A blood donor being honoured in Vijayapura

Here’s a noble cause born out of a tragedy.
The year was 2008 when Vijayapura resident Ateeb Inamdar’s life turned upside down. His nine-month-old niece died of dengue after not getting the required platelets. “The hospital in Vijayapura referred us to Solapur in Maharashtra for better treatment. But despite our best efforts, we failed to arrange the required platelets, and the baby died in the hospital after nine days,” says Ateeb, now 30 years old, adding that he felt helpless after failing to arrange platelets to save his niece.
That incident shook Ateeb so deeply that it inspired him and his friends to start a blood donors’ group. “I, with the support from my brother-in-law and 15 others, including my cousins and friends, started the movement in 2009. It kept growing over the years with the number of donors now standing at over 3,000. Today, we have the satisfaction of saving the lives of countless people in need of blood,” he says.
Ateeb registered the association as an NGO in 2013, called it Sultan Social Group and Welfare Society and expanded the network. Initially, the NGO was involved in not only blood donation, but also collecting charity to treat the poor. But over the years, the NGO has remained largely focused only on blood donation, as they realised that people were getting financial aid from many but not blood.
“With the emergence of social media, our network widened. We not only kept easily adding more donors, but started getting frequent calls and demand for blood from various parts of Vijayapura district. We also got in touch with similar organisations in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa and even Delhi,” he says, adding that before social media, they contacted donors only by phone, and this limited their numbers. “It is a job done only for the satisfaction of our soul and not for any monetary benefit,” Ateeb adds.
He proudly says that today, they are a part of at least a dozen different blood donors’ groups in Karnataka and other states. “This has helped us share details of patients who need blood in various groups. The minute the information is passed on, donors approach us in large numbers,” he adds.
Rare blood groups
Besides blood groups that are common, Ateeb says they keep a record of donors with rare blood groups, like all negative blood groups and AB+. The rarest among all is the ‘Bombay Blood Group,’ and the NGO has two donors registered with them in Vijayapura district. “We have five from Kalaburagi district with that blood group. In all, we have 12 people in this rare group. We have told them not to donate blood in any donation camps, and to donate it only when a patient needs it. This is because after donating blood, they cannot do it for at least three months, as lost blood cells need time to recoup in the body after losing it,” he adds.
Ateeb says that after the group gained a good name in the district, not just hospitals but almost all blood banks approach them for blood. “If the patient cannot afford it, we request the blood banks to waive off the amount, and we get a positive response from them,” he added.
Ateeb says that people must come forward to donate blood to save lives. “It is the best charity I believe a human can do to a fellow human. I believe only a few people are gifted to do that work, as not everyone can donate blood for various reasons. Those who are eligible should never miss the chance, irrespective of their caste, creed, or religion. Ultimately, humanity is the foundation of every religion,” he adds.
Ateeb emphasises that more people should come forward to donate blood. “Every life saved gives us a blissful feeling,” he concludes.

Three siblings from Bhatkal, currently studying in Mangaluru, secured top honours at the State-level Karate Championship held in Moodbidri on September 1, 2025 The event was organised by the Shorin-Ryu Karate Association in association with Swami’s Strength Training and MK Ananthraj College of Physical Education.
Ismail Nameer, a 15-year-old student of Huda Islamia School, Mangaluru, won first place in Kumite (fight).
His younger brother, Hamdan (11 years), a student of Presidency School, Mangaluru, secured first place in Kumite (Fight) and second place in Kata in the under-11 category.
Their sister, Umme Kulsum, also a student of Presidency School, claimed first place in the Fighting category in the under-8 category.
The siblings are children of Nisar Ahmed Ruknuddin and Nada of Bhatkal, who are presently residing in Mangaluru.

Senior writer, multilingual scholar and progressive thinker Prof. M. Karimuddin (95) passed away at his home in Ganjam, Srirangapatna on Saturday morning due to age-related illness.
Karimuddin, who was unmarried, had served as a Kannada professor and later as a principal in government degree colleges in Mysore, Mandya, Madikeri and elsewhere before retiring.
A student of Kuvempu, he had studied Kannada, English, Urdu, Persian, Arabic and Sanskrit.
He had written many works including Orphan Muslims, Sanchita Chintana, and Baalu Baddu. Many of his thought-provoking speeches on All India Radio were popular. ‘Prof. Karimuddin’s Life and Literature’ was the text for students of class 9 who were studying Kannada as a second language in Urdu medium.
A good orator, Karimuddin was actively involved in farmer, Dalit, pro-Kannada, progressive, and anti-idiotic movements even in his later years. His ancestors were relatives of Tipu Sultan.
Karimuddin, who retired as a Kannada professor at Maharaja’s College, Mysore, was well-versed in Kannada grammar, Old Kannada and New Kannada literature.
He had also done a lot of research on Tipu Sultan. It is said that he had written many collected works on the history of Tipu Sultan.
His friend Prof. Nanjaraja Urs expressed his condolences, saying that his death is a huge loss to the Kannada nation.

Dr. Syed Shah Khusro Hussaini, Founder and Chancellor, Khaja Bandanawaz University was conferred with “Mohsin-E-Millat Award” by Sir Syed Awareness Forum (SAF) during a function which was attended by many prominent personalities from the field of education at University Polytechnic Auditorium, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
During the occasion a seminar on “Modern Education and Muslims” was also organised by the Forum.
Addressing the seminar Dr. Syed Shah Khusro Hussaini said that education is necessary for Muslims throughout the world. He said that, Islam is a modern religion and if the principles of Islam are followed honestly, then everyone can achieve success in their lives. He further said that he is the admirer of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and he is trying his best to carry forward the mission of Sir Syed by establishing a university. He appealed to the Muslims to focus on education as it is the key to success. In the last he said that division on the basis of school of thought is causing harm to the Muslims. It should be avoided by them.
Presiding over the seminar, Prof. Mohd. Hanif Beg, Pro Vice Chancellor, AMU said that in today’s world it is very important to discuss on the issues of education. He congratulated the SAF for organizing the seminar on modern education. He further said that Sir Syed has always given importance to modern education. At the end he requested the students to work hard for civil services and judicial examinations.

Sachar Committee report has confirmed that the educational status of Muslims in India is lower than Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He said that higher education is the only solution of this problem. He requested the students of AMU to focus on their education and keep themselves away from unnecessary activities. At the last he congratulated Prof. Shakeel Samdani, President SAF for organizing a wonderful seminar on a very important topic.
President of the forum, Prof. Shakeel Samdani, while delivering his speech, said that Muslims have dominated the world in the field of education, science, literature, etc for about 600 years and this was only possible because they focused more on education and research. He congratulated the South India for carrying forward the mission of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. South Indian Muslims have established much more education institutions as compared to Muslims of North India. He further said that Dr. Khusro Hussaini has established 24 educational institutions and the most important among them is the Khaja Banda Nawaz University. He said that the work of Dr. Hussaini is appreciable as he has helped the poor sections of the society by establishing educational institutions. At the last he said that it is the pleasure of SAF that Dr. Hussaini has accepted the Mohsin-E-Millat Award.
Principal of Abdullah College, Prof. Naima Gulrez said that North India is lagging behind in establishing educational institutions as compared to South India. She gave the example of Parsis that although they are numerically less in population but they are one of the most prosperous community in the country. It is because they are educationally advanced and they focus very much over modern education. She expressed her sorrow about the condition of Muslim women in the society.
Vice Chancellor of Khaja Banda Nawaz University, Prof. Abdul Jaleel Khan Pathan congratulated SAF for conferring ‘Mohsin-E-Millat Award’ on Dr. Hussaini. He said that it is the need of hour to carry forward the mission of Sir Syed and to provide quality education to Muslims.
Dr. Mohib Ul Haque, said that the time has come for Muslims to focus on modern education if they want to succeed. He congratulated Prof. Shakeel Samdani and SAF for their contribution in establishing Tipu Sultan Block at AMU.
Anjum Tabassum Lashkri (Karnataka) and Mr. Tariq Hussain, AMU were felicitated with “SAF Excellence Award”. Ayesha Samdani conducted the seminar and Mansoor Ilahi proposed the vote of thanks. Sarah Samdani also spoke on this occasion. Poetess Rehana Shaheen recited a Nazm on Sir Syed.
Wajahat Jilani welcomed the guests and Aman highlighted the objectives of the Forum.
