M Iqbal Manna reinstalled as President of the Giants Group of Udupi for 2023

M Manna Iqbal was on Monday reinstalled as the President of the Giants Group of Udupi for the year 2023, in a ceremony held at the Woodlands Hotel here in the city.

Dinkar K Amin, a Central Committee member of the Giants Welfare Foundation was present as the Chief Guest of the event while Vasudev Mahale, Unit Director of Federation 6 was the installation officer at the ceremony.

Former Federation President Jayarajprakash was the keynote speaker at the event while Dr. Junaida Sulthana, Academic Head, MET, Udyavara, Udupi, Tejeshwar Roa, Federation vice-president, and Lakshmikanth Beskoor, Federation coordinator were present as the guests of honor.

Four women – Dildar Akbar – Special Needs School, Udupi, Sushma Gopalkrishna – Police Inspector Udupi Women’s police station, Bindu Thankappan, Advocate, Shaila Amanna, Asha Nilaya, Udupi – were also felicitated for their outstanding services and selfless contribution towards the society.

The new committee of the Giants Group Udupi was also formed. Yashwant Salian and Vincent Saldana were appointed vice-presidents, Roshan Ballal. Director of Administration, Vadiraj, Joint Director of Administration, Ganesh Ural, Director of Finance, Dayanand Kalmady, Joint Director of Finance. Prabhakar Bangera, Liyaqath Ali, Vinay Kumar Poojary, Zeenath, Geetha Rao, and Diwakar Sanil took oath as Directors.

Roshan Ballal presented the annual report while Vivek Kamath proposed a vote of thanks and compered the event.

The event was followed by an Iftaar arrangement for the members and audience.

Udupi’s Areej Ahmed awarded best outgoing student at Manipal College of Health Professions

Udupi:

Areej Ahmed, a resident of Udupi was awarded the best outgoing student for the year 2021 at the 23rd Annual and Awards day at the Manipal College of Health Professions.

Areej, completed her Bachelor’s degree in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (BASLP) with distinction. She is the daughter of Udupi’s Khaleel Ahmed and Zeenath.

Areej received the award of best outgoing student of the BASLP batch from Manipal and Mangalore campuses.

Udupi Fire Service Officer Meer Mohammed Ghouse receives President’s Medal for Meritorious Service

Udupi, KARNATAKA:

Meer Mohammed Ghouse, assistant fire station officer, Udupi received the President’s medal for his meritorious service from Karnataka state governor Thawar Chand Gehlot at the Raj Bhavan, Bengaluru on November 7.

Ghouse had joined the fire service in 1992.

He had received promotions during his service period of the last 30 years and is serving as an assistant station officer at present.

The department has presented cash prizes to him 33 times and two certificates of excellence.

He was felicitated with the chief minister’s gold medal in 2012.

Ashmath Ali elected new President of Kundapur Taluk Welfare Association Qatar

Kundapur (Udupi District), KARNATAKA :

Kundapur Taluk Welfare Association (KTWA) Qatar, elected new executive body for the next term during its annual general body meeting on May 15.

Ashmath Ali was unanimously elected as the new President of the association while Imran Nawunda was elected as the new Vice President.

Mohammed Arshad will be the new general secretary while Mehroz Byndore will be the joint secretary for the new term.

Among the other office bearers Mohsin was elected as the Treasurer, Zahid MH will be joint treasurer, Abdul Khader Sports Secretary, Zeeshan will be joint sports secretary.

Mubarak Kodi and Alam will handle public relations.

Akbar and Yaseen  Byndoor were elected in Advisory Panel, Sameer and Hameed Hemmady were elected as members of Working Committee.

Former President Ashmath Ali welcomed the event while General Secretary Mohammed Arshad proposed vote of thanks. Alam compered the event.

Karkala: Son of taxi driver Mohammed Shaukath Azeem secures 545th rank in UPSC examination

Mohammed Shaukath Azeem, son of taxi driver, resident of Jarigudde near here has secured 545th rank scoring 914 marks in the UPSC examination that was held recently.

Shaukath got his primary education from SVT school of Karkala and completed his high school and degree studies in KMES college. He did the engineering graduation in Electronics and Communication from MITE at Mijar near Moodbidri. Later when he wanted to appear for UPSC, he was selected for UPSC training by the government of Karnataka and he was given stipend during training.

Shaukath started writing the UPSC examination for the first time in 2016. This was his seventh attempt and he came out with flying colours.

The Public Service Commission of 2021 has selected 685 candidates throughout the country and Shaukath is one of the few who are selected from Karnataka. Shaukath comes from a financially poor family. His father Sheikh Abdul drives a taxi for a living, while his mother Maimuna is a housewife.

An elated Mohammed Shaukath Azeem said, “My parents, who stressed on my education even during financial difficulties are my inspiration. I used to prepare everyday for five hours before the examination. Not only studying, but the social knowledge helped me a lot. I will most probably get selected for revenue or chartered accountancy. Selection process will be held within two months.”

Dubai: Udupi’s Gulshan Banu Kazi sets world record in national Push-Pull Championship 2022

Powerlifter Gulshan Banu Kazi has not only made her native Udupi, India  proud but also Dubai proud by securing a world record among the master category athletes in the Professional Raw Organisations Push-Pull Championship 2022, a national level event held in Bengaluru recently. 

This sporting event held at Onyx Fitness was one of the most popular internationally sanctioned national powerlifting championships, consisting of three main events -Bench Press, Deadlifts and Push-Pull.

Record holder Gulshan Banu Kazi is a 43-year-old mother of three, working six days a week at a corporate office in Dubai.

A native of Udupi, she is from Udupi and an alumnus of St Cecily’s and PPC College here .

She is a competitive Powerlifter. Powerlifting is a form of competitive weightlifting in which the contestants attempt three types of lifts in a set sequence, squat, bench press, and deadlift.

Gulshan started powerlifting training in the year 2019.

The training is tough. She trains at least four times a week for about 90 minutes each time and keeps a watch on her nutrition intake and sleep pattern.

She has been participating in a powerlifting competition in UAE and did well there. One of her latest has been the Pro-League National Championship-2022 where she hit five personal records and registered a World Record in Deadlifts (U82.5kg Masters and Open Category) by pulling 180 kgs. She becomes the first woman of India in her age and her weight category to pull off this deadlift.

Last April, she participated in the WPC National Powerlifting Championship securing four gold medals in Bengaluru. Gulshan Kazi won the Best Lifter Award in the Masters’ category.

Gulshan used to be above 100 kgs till 2016 when she suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Resistance training and tracking her food intake enabled her to start losing weight and gaining muscle. Soon after, she was introduced to powerlifting and has been consistent at it ever since.

She is grateful to Raju Pal, her first coach who introduced her to powerlifting and taught her all the basics.

Now she is training under Mohammad Azmat who is a multiple-time national and international medalist in powerlifting, having won medals for India in different federations. He has been coaching her since 2020.

Gulshan Kazi is looking forward to her representation at World Championships and working hard to make  India proud.
