Syeda Reha Khadri has been awarded a gold medal for scoring 8.65 CGPA in MSc Chemistry. She is a student of Dr. G Shankar Government Women’s First Grade College and Post Graduate Study Centre, Udupi. Reha scored high ranks in the post-graduate exams conducted by Mangalore University for the academic year 2022-23.
“I put in my efforts, and Allah gave me the result,” Reha expressed gratefully, emphasizing the importance of dedication, focus, hard work, and prayer.
She conveyed a powerful message to the upcoming generation: “Whatever you do, put in a lot of dedication and effort. It’s not just about the result but about being satisfied with the amount of effort you put into any activity. Be righteous, truthful, and honest and grab every opportunity, despite any hindrances, and excel in it.”
Reha Khadri shared her study routine and the factors contributing to her success. “I always made sure to keep up with my classes and prepare my notes,” she explained. “I would wake up early in the morning to prepare, be attentive in class, and understand every topic thoroughly before attending. Reading a lot of books and the support from my college in providing resources were key. My teachers and parents have always been supportive and ready to help.”
Reha credited the eco-friendly and supportive environment of her college for fostering her academic growth and encouraging her participation in various competitions. Her motivation stemmed from a desire to excel and create good opportunities for her future, especially in her Ph.D. studies at MIT Manipal, where she is focusing on renewable energy under the guidance of Dr. Murti Dharma Pura.

The Karnataka Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) has announced its annual awards for the year 2024, recognising journalists across various categories.
Vartha Bharati journalists Yogesh Malluru and Abdul Rahiman Talapady are among the awardees. Yogesh Mallur has been selected for the G. Narayanaswamy Award for Best Rural Reporting, while Abdul Rahiman Talapady has been honoured under the Tagadoor Kamalamma Veeregowda Award for reporting on farmers’ livelihoods and distress.
The awards will be presented at the 40th State Journalists’ Conference to be held in Bidar on April 11 and 12, KUWJ state president Shivanand Tagadur and general secretary G.C. Lokesh said in a release.

Nishat Mohsin and Misba Umrean, Co-founders of the fashion exhibition platform ‘Panache’, have been curating memorable fashion experiences in Mysuru for several years.
What began as a modest initiative has grown into one of the city’s most-loved fashion exhibitions, offering a thoughtfully curated experience while bringing designers and fashion enthusiasts under one roof.
Alongside its successful editions in Mysuru, ‘Panache’ has also travelled to Bengaluru and Coorg in collaboration with several high-end brands.
While successfully steering ‘Panache’, the duo also balances their entrepreneurial journey with family life and personal passions.
Nishat, born in Bengaluru & raised in Mysuru, is married to a businessman and is a mother of two who enjoys designing spaces and nurturing plants.
Misba, born in Mysuru and now based in Bengaluru, is a B.Com graduate, married to a Bengaluru-based professional and a mother of three who enjoys travel, adventure sports and cooking.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, the sisters open up about their journey, inspiration and vision behind ‘Panache’: “Fashion is not just about clothing, it’s about creativity, craftsmanship and giving designers a platform to shine.” —Ed
Star of Mysore (SOM): How did the fashion extravaganza Panache begin? And what inspired you both to venture into fashion exhibition curation?
Nishat Mohsin and Misba Umrean: ‘Panache’ was envisioned by Nishat in 2008 as an intimate platform connecting designers with fashion enthusiasts. When Misba joined in 2009, the exhibition gained new momentum and gradually evolved into a celebrated fashion destination.
Coming from business-oriented families, we always aspired to create something of our own. Our journey into exhibition curation is driven by a deep appreciation for fashion not just as clothing, but for the creativity and craftsmanship behind it. Through ‘Panache’, we’ve had the joy of bringing ideas to life while giving designers a platform to shine.
OM: Mysuru is known for its legacy of royalty and rich cultural identity. Do you think Mysureans have a unique fashion sense? And when it comes to style, what defines them more, silk sarees or contemporary fashion trends?
Nishat and Misba: Absolutely. Mysureans have a refined and graceful sense of style. Silk sarees hold a special place; they’re timeless, elegant and deeply rooted in tradition. At the same time, they embrace contemporary styles and modern silhouettes with equal grace. What makes their style truly distinctive is this seamless blend of heritage and modernity, marked by elegance and understated sophistication.
SOM: In your opinion, how has the representation of women in fashion events evolved over the years?
Nishat and Misba: The evolution has been remarkable. While women were once seen mainly as participants or models, today they lead as designers, entrepreneurs and key decision-makers, shaping the industry.
Fashion platforms have become powerful spaces for women to express their creativity and vision through their brands, and it’s inspiring to witness and contribute to this evolution.
SOM: How has the role of social media and digital platforms changed how fashion exhibitions are promoted and experienced?
Nishat and Misba: Social media have introduced a new dimension to fashion exhibitions. Promotions that once relied on word of mouth now reach audiences instantly. Digital platforms create anticipation even before the event begins, allowing us to connect with our audience early and extend the energy of the exhibition beyond its closing day.
SOM: What has been your most memorable exhibition moment? Have you encountered a last-minute crisis? How do you navigate them?
Nishat and Misba: Some of the most memorable moments are often the simplest. Watching a designer sell out, or a visitor finding exactly what they were looking for, is priceless.
Naturally, live events come with their share of challenges, from logistical hurdles to unexpected technical setbacks. Over the years, there have been many last-minute surprises and we address them with composure, teamwork & mutual trust.

SOM: How do you ensure smooth collaboration among teams and what defines the success of an exhibition for you?
Nishat and Misba: Effective collaboration begins with clear communication and mutual respect. We involve designers, production, and marketing teams from the very beginning. So, everyone feels aligned and valued.
For us, the success of an exhibition goes beyond numbers. It lies in the connections created when designers feel supported, visitors leave inspired and the continued trust people place in ‘Panache’ year after year.
SOM: How do you stay calm and manage stress when the event date is approaching?
Nishat and Misba: As the event date approaches, there is always a certain rush, but over the years with ‘Panache’, we have learnt that staying calm is a conscious choice. Careful planning helps minimise last-minute stress. A quiet prayer, deep breaths and trusting our team help us stay grounded and we believe that positive energy always reflects in the event.
SOM: What advice would you give someone who wants to break into fashion or event management?
Nishat and Misba: Fashion and event management may appear glamorous, but they require discipline, patience and emotional intelligence. Start small, build genuine relationships and stay consistent, as reputation is paramount. Above all, understand people, fashion is not just about clothing, but about emotions and confidence.
SOM: What message would you like to share with women this Women’s Day?
Nishat and Misba: To every woman, we would say that strength is not defined by others; it lies in your ambition and compassion. Celebrate your achievements without guilt, dream beyond your fears and never diminish yourself to make others comfortable. Your journey simply needs to be your own.

Indian karateka Zaara Vasim Assadi emerged as the standout performer at the International Karate Open Championship held as part of the Muscat Night Festival, clinching four gold medals in a remarkable display of skill and consistency.
The prestigious tournament saw participation from around 400 athletes representing 24 clubs across multiple countries. Amid intense competition, Zaara, aged just 10, created history by becoming the only girl at the championship to secure gold in all four categories she competed in individual Kata, individual Kumite, team Kata, and team Kumite.
Zaara’s achievement adds to her already impressive record. She has remained undefeated in Kata since the age of five, underlining her long-standing dominance in the discipline. Her performances were widely praised for technical precision, discipline, and composure well beyond her age.
Training at The Champ Sports & Arts in Muscat, Zaara’s journey has become a source of inspiration for young martial artists, reinforcing the idea that dedication and passion can overcome age-related barriers in competitive sport.
The championship also served as a platform for cultural exchange, bringing together athletes and spectators from diverse backgrounds and celebrating the unifying spirit of karate.
Zaara Vasim Assadi is the daughter of Vasim Assadi and Hasra Sana and hails from Udupi. She is the granddaughter of Zikriya Assadi.

A one-day Exhibition-cum-Sale was organised by the Women’s Wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Shivamogga District. The exhibition was inaugurated by the State Secretary of the Women’s Wing, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Mohtarma Taskeela Khanum.
The objective of such programmes is to economically strengthen and empower women. In the context of rising inflation, unemployment, and poverty, it was emphasised that addressing these challenges is a shared responsibility, and that women must play an effective role alongside men in the nation’s economic development.
The organisers highlighted that such exhibitions provide women with practical business experience, opportunities to interact with people from diverse backgrounds, and support in developing entrepreneurial ideas. These platforms also enable women to engage in halal business practices within the limits of Shari’ah, while facilitating growth through networking and referrals.
Islam permits women to engage in business, including running enterprises from their homes, as reflected in Islamic history through the example of Khadijah bint Khuwaylid رضی الله عنها, a successful businesswoman. Islam also encourages honest and ethical business practices for both men and women.
Nearly 100 women from across the district set up stalls showcasing clothing, handbags, fancy items, abayas, home-made products, and more. A food court offering a wide variety of food items was another major attraction. Members, associates of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, and women entrepreneurs from different parts of the district actively participated in the exhibition.
The women-exclusive exhibition attracted around 3000 women visitors, who actively shopped at the stalls. The event was described as highly encouraging, as it highlighted the talents, skills, and entrepreneurial potential of women.
Such exhibitions form part of the organisational plan of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind to promote women’s empowerment. Efforts will be made to strengthen the women entrepreneurs’ network.
Feedback received from participants reflected a high level of satisfaction, with many expressing a desire for similar programmes to be organised regularly. Participants particularly appreciated that the exhibition was organised by women, for women, and exclusively for women, creating a comfortable environment that enabled them to conduct business with confidence.
The organisers were widely appreciated, and participants expressed eagerness to remain connected and take part in future programmes. The total sales from all stalls amounted to approximately ₹3 lakh during the one-day exhibition.
The programme concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the importance of such initiatives in promoting women’s economic empowerment and community development.

Anupama, the state’s only women’s monthly Kannada magazine run entirely by Muslim women, has completed 25 years. To mark this milestone, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah released a special silver jubilee issue, reflecting on its 25-year journey of success, in Bengaluru on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister congratulated the team, saying, “There are only a handful of Muslim women in journalism. In such a scenario, it is highly commendable that the Anupama Women’s Monthly, run by women from the Muslim community and has successfully completed 25 years.”
Shahnaz M., the editor of Anupama, also spoke at the occasion. “The implementation of the ‘Guarantee’ schemes for women in the state has brought about significant changes in their lives. On behalf of the Anupama team and all women, I extend my gratitude to the government led by CM Siddaramaiah for their commitment to women’s development,” she stated.
The event was attended by Naseer Ahmed (Political Secretary to the CM), MLA Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah, BMTC Vice-Chairman Niket Raj Maurya, and Anupama’s sub-editors Samina Uppinangady, Sajida Momin, and Kulsum Abubakkar. Defying all odds, Saniya Samreen, daughter of a fruit vendor from Aland town in Kalaburagi district, bagged the Gold Medal in Master of Commerce (MCom) at the 9th convocation ceremony of the Central University of Karnataka (CUK) held on Saturday.
She received the medal from Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Chairperson of the Law Commission of India and former Judge of the Supreme Court, in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Battu Satyanarayana, Registrar R.R. Biradar and Controller of Examinations Kota Sai Krishna, on Saturday.
Ms. Samreen, who completed her schooling and college education in Aland before joining CUK for her postgraduate studies, said that her achievement was a result of perseverance and family support.
“All of my achievements are the result of hard work, dedication, and the unwavering support and guidance from my family and mentors,” she with gratitude during her interaction with media representatives on the sidelines of the convocation.
Her father, Mr. Shamu Bagwan, earns his livelihood as a fruit vendor, while her mother, Mrs. Raziya Begum, is a homemaker. “My parents’ constant belief in me has been the driving force behind my success,” Saniya added.
Saniya, who has also qualified both the Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET) and the National Eligibility Test (NET) for assistant professor, said she wishes to build her career in academia.
“I aspire to contribute to the field of commerce through teaching and by shaping future professionals,” she said.

Three siblings from Bhatkal, currently studying in Mangaluru, secured top honours at the State-level Karate Championship held in Moodbidri on September 1, 2025 The event was organised by the Shorin-Ryu Karate Association in association with Swami’s Strength Training and MK Ananthraj College of Physical Education.
Ismail Nameer, a 15-year-old student of Huda Islamia School, Mangaluru, won first place in Kumite (fight).
His younger brother, Hamdan (11 years), a student of Presidency School, Mangaluru, secured first place in Kumite (Fight) and second place in Kata in the under-11 category.
Their sister, Umme Kulsum, also a student of Presidency School, claimed first place in the Fighting category in the under-8 category.
The siblings are children of Nisar Ahmed Ruknuddin and Nada of Bhatkal, who are presently residing in Mangaluru.
