Int’l Success for Son of Welder: Abdullah Wins Bronze for India at World School Volleyball Championship

Mandaur Village (near Prayagraj), UTTAR PRADESH :

Raipur:

Abdullah, a talented mid-blocker from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centre (STC), Raipur, has brought pride to the nation by winning a bronze medal representing India at the Under-15 World School Volleyball Championship, held at Shangluo, China, from 4 to 13 December 2025.

A residential trainee at STC Raipur for the past two years, Abdullah has shown steady growth and consistency at the international level. Earlier in July 2025, he was a key member of the Indian team that secured a bronze medal at the Under-16 Asian Volleyball Championship held in Thailand.

Coming from a humble background, Abdullah is the son of a welder, Mohammed Raju. Expressing overwhelming happiness on his son’s international success, his father said, “Hum poori mehnat karenge, Abdullah bas tum desh ke liye khelo. STC Raipur mein mere bete ko jo training mili, usne uske talent ko tarasha aur aaj usne desh ke liye medal jeeta.”

Abdullah began playing volleyball at his birthplace Mandaur, a small village near Prayagraj, known for its strong volleyball culture. Observing his natural ability, a well-wisher from the village advised his family to provide him with professional training. This guidance led to Abdullah’s induction into SAI Training Centre, Raipur in 2023, where structured coaching and continuous support from SAI helped him develop into an international-level player.

Following his recent achievements, Abdullah has now been selected for the Under-17 World Volleyball Championship, scheduled to be held in Thailand in 2026. With focused preparation and team effort, he aims to help India improve upon previous performances and compete for the gold medal.

Abhishek Singh Chauhan (ITS), Regional Director, SAI RC Bhopal, expressed happiness over Abdullah’s achievement and appreciated the collective efforts of the coaches and support staff for nurturing international-level talent at the centre. He highlighted that athletes from SAI Training Centres (STCs), along with those from SAI National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), are delivering remarkable international results, which is a very positive sign for the future of sports in India.

Ms. Garima Chaudhary (Olympian & Deputy Director), Centre In-charge, SAI Training Centre Raipur, also congratulated Abdullah on his commendable achievement and wished him continued success in his sporting career.

MP Javed Secures Faculty Post Approvals for AMU Kishanganj Centre

Kishanganj, BIHAR :

Aligarh:

Member of Parliament from Kishanganj, Dr. Mohammad Javed, met Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon to review administrative and academic progress at the AMU Kishanganj Centre. The meeting focused on staffing approvals and pending regulatory processes affecting campus development.

The Vice Chancellor informed Dr. Javed of approvals granted by the AMU Executive Council for required teaching and non teaching posts at the centre. These approvals followed sustained engagement by the MP on staffing needs. University officials plan to upload proposals for the sanctioned posts on the Samarth Portal soon. This step clears the path for regular recruitment and improved academic delivery.

The newly appointed Director of the Kishanganj Centre, Prof. Tariq, joined the discussion and reiterated the university administration’s commitment to institutional growth. He said the leadership has initiated concrete steps to develop the centre into a fully functional academic unit with stable administration.

Dr. Javed raised concerns related to environmental clearance. He referred to a communication from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change which noted absence of an application from AMU on the Parivesh 2.0 portal. Lack of such filing has delayed approvals for buildings and campus infrastructure, slowing project progress.

Prof. Tariq responded with an assurance of direct oversight of the Parivesh 2.0 application process. He committed to completing the filing promptly and pursuing required clearances with concerned authorities.

Students from Kishanganj and nearby districts met Dr. Javed during the visit. They shared academic and facility related concerns. The MP listened to the students and assured continued efforts toward faster development and smoother academic operations at the centre.

Observers view the meeting as a step toward addressing long pending gaps in staffing and infrastructure at the AMU Kishanganj Centre.

Former Haritha Leaders Secure Strong Wins in Kerala Local Body Polls

KERALA :

Malabar:

Former state leaders of Haritha, the women students wing linked to the Muslim League, recorded decisive victories in Kerala local body elections, strengthening the United Democratic Front’s position across Malabar.

Advocate Fathima Thahliya, Advocate Mufeeda Thesni, and Advocate Najma Thabsheera won their respective contests with large margins. All three previously held top positions in Haritha at the state level.

Thahliya contested from the Kuttichira division of Kozhikode Corporation as the UDF deputy mayor candidate. She defeated the LDF supported candidate by a margin of 2,273 votes. She also serves as state secretary of the Youth League.

Najma Thabsheera won from the newly formed Valambur division in Perinthalmanna Block Panchayat. Contesting as block president candidate, she secured 6,730 votes against her rival’s 4,118 and continues as standing committee chairperson.

Muslim Candidates Secure 39 Gram Panchayat Seats Across Telangana

TELANGANA :

Hyderabad:

A total of 39 Muslim candidates have won Gram Panchayat elections across Telangana, marking a clear rise in local level representation. Several winners include women, reflecting wider participation from within the community in rural governance.

Nizamabad district recorded the highest number of Muslim winners with nine candidates elected from different political parties. The outcome showed voter preference for local credibility and grassroots engagement over party labels. Other districts with notable results include Jagtial, Sirsilla, Nagarkurnool, and Siddipet, where five Muslim candidates secured mandates.

Muslim sarpanches also won in Warangal, Narayanpet, Medak, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nirmal, and Bhadradri Kothagudem. These victories point to steady public trust in Muslim leadership at the village level. Candidates focused on local concerns such as water access, sanitation, roads, and welfare delivery during their campaigns.

Women candidates formed a visible part of this success. Districts such as Warangal, Narayanpet, Medak, Khammam, Kamareddy, and Mahabubnagar elected Muslim women as sarpanches. Their victories signal gradual social change within rural political spaces and stronger acceptance of women in decision making roles.

Community observers note these results counter long standing patterns where Muslims remained underrepresented in local bodies. The spread of victories across districts and parties suggests sustained voter engagement rather than isolated outcomes.

The newly elected representatives now face expectations to deliver transparent governance and address everyday civic issues. Their performance at the village level is likely to influence future participation and confidence in local democratic processes across Telangana.

Reading Great Books Enriches Knowledge and Guides Life: Senior Journalist Shahjahan Magdum

Islampur (Sangli Districti), MAHARASHTRA :

Book Distribution and Certificate Distribution Ceremony Enthusiastically Held at Nishat Urdu Library

Islampur:

“To make human life prosperous, profound, and radiant, as well as to give the right direction to life, it is essential to imbibe the thoughts of great personalities, and these thoughts are acquired only through the reading of books,” asserted Senior Journalist and Executive Editor of Weekly Shodhan, Shahjahan Magdum. He was speaking as the keynote speaker at the book distribution ceremony and the certificate distribution programme for the free basic computer course organised at Nishat Urdu Library here.

The programme, held on December 11, was presided over by social activist Jameer Nadaf, while Prof. Nazim Shaikh was present as the Chief Guest.

The ceremony began in a very auspicious atmosphere with a melodious recitation of the Holy Qur’an by students of the Madrasa.

Following this, the anchor, Mr. Altaf Momin, introduced the guests to the audience in his fluent style and presented a brief overview of the educational and social journey of the Nishat Library.

In his keynote address, Shahjahan Magdum underscored the importance of reading culture. He stated that everyone gathered there was inspired by the noble teachings of Islam and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. With the noble intention that the Prophet’s message of humanity and his teachings should reach all communities in the Marathi language, he donated Islamic books and copies of the Marathi translation of the Holy Qur’an to the library.

He guided the audience by referencing inspiring articles and thoughts based on the lives of great personalities. Mentioning that his relationship with Nishat Library is not just formal but old and emotional, he assured all possible help for the library’s future progress and needs. He praised the institution’s office bearers, stating that Nishat Library is performing the sacred duty of preserving and growing the reading culture in the city and surrounding areas. He thanked trustees Abid Momin, Anis Momin, and other office bearers for the invitation.

While delivering the introductory remarks, Anis Momin, the Secretary of Nishat Library, presented an account of the institution’s 40-year penance. Narrating the inspiring history since the library’s inception, he mentioned that keeping the reading culture alive in Urdu, Marathi, and English languages and running a library in a city like Islampur for the last four decades was a major challenge. He detailed how difficult this task was and how the institution reached this stage by overcoming obstacles. He gratefully noted that many prestigious citizens, donors, and especially Urdu medium students consistently contributed to this journey. He explained that the library not only makes books available for reading but also fulfills its social responsibility by conducting free computer classes and various socially useful activities.

In his presidential address, Jameer Nadaf explained the significance of reading. Stating that reading changes a person’s vision and makes them complete, he proposed a significant concept for the better utilisation of the library. He suggested that a grand ‘Kavi Sammelan’ (Poets’ Meet) bringing together Urdu and Marathi literature should be organised in Islampur city. He also appealed that, not limiting the scope to just reading, other educational and social programmes should be organised with the cooperation of all communities. He assured that he would personally take the initiative and provide appropriate cooperation for such activities.

Chief Guest Prof. Nazim Shaikh provided valuable guidance to the students. He said that they have been blessed with a home of knowledge in the form of Nishat Library, and students should make the best use of it. He urged students from all sections of society, especially the needy, to take advantage of the ongoing free computer classes as well as coaching classes for Marathi, English, and Mathematics to build their careers. Prof. Shaikh is always striving for the development of Nishat Library and to fulfill the educational needs of Urdu medium students.

Delivering a message of social harmony, Sambhaji Brigade Sangli District President Umesh Shewale highlighted the progressive thoughts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. Citing history, he clarified that Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj worked for the upliftment of not just the Bahujan society but people of all castes and religions. Significantly, Shahu Maharaj had performed a historic and important task of religious harmony by providing funds for the Marathi translation of the Qur’an in those times. On behalf of Sambhaji Brigade, he reminisced about the work of Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe of the Samyukta Maharashtra movement.

Sambhaji Brigade Islampur City President Ajit Havaldar emphasised his and his family’s harmonious and affectionate relations with the Muslim community. He mentioned that since it was a Nishat Library programme, he attended specifically as a book lover. He testified that his and his organisation’s cooperation would remain for any constructive work of the society in the future. On this occasion, Umesh Suryagandh also provided enlightening guidance to the audience and profusely praised the social work of Nishat Library.

Taking the opportunity of this ceremony, valuable books were donated to the library. Through the efforts of Shahjahan Magdum, 10 copies of the Marathi translated Holy Qur’an and 250 books on various subjects were handed over from the Islamic Marathi Publication Trust (Mumbai). Similarly, on behalf of Sambhaji Brigade Islampur, 8 volumes of selected literature of Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe were donated, and Shakirbhai Tamboli donated 100 copies of his self-authored book “OBC Reservation Sub-Quota: Ibadat Bhi, Zimmedari Bhi” to the library.
