Aligarh:

The Department of Wildlife Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), under the leadership of Professor Orus Ilyas, made a stellar mark at the 2nd International Conference on Hangul and Other Threatened Ungulates (2IHUC-25), held at SKUAST-Kashmir.

Four research scholars of the department, including Shahzada Iqbal, Mohsin Javid (PMRF fellow), Aeimon Hafeez, and Yashi Singh (both associated with the ANRF-SERB funded Tahr Ecology Project), presented their work at the conference. In a proud moment for the university, Mohsin Javid won the first prize in the oral presentation category, while Yashi Singh and Aeimon Hafeez secured gold and silver prizes, respectively, in the poster presentation segment.

Adding to the department’s achievements, Professor Orus Ilyas delivered an invited lecture on “Ecology and Conservation of Himalayan Tahrs”, drawing upon over two decades of Himalayan field research and insights from her current ANRF-SERB funded project. She also chaired two important technical sessions at the conference.

The conference brought together global experts to deliberate on conservation strategies for Hangul, Markhor, and other Himalayan ungulates, and AMU’s delegation not only earned top academic accolades but also reaffirmed the university’s reputation as a leading centre of excellence in wildlife research and conservation.
