Drugs Laboratories becomes first Unani Company to get prestigious ‘Ayush Premium Mark’

Meerut- based Unani drugs manufacturing company ‘Drugs Laboratories’ is the one and only among the Unani pharmaceuticals companies which was recently accorded the prestigious ‘Ayush Premium Mark’ by the Ministry of AYUSH.  Now it would able to export Unani medicine abroad legally.

Considering the  state of  Unani pharmaceuticals industry in the country, it is not a mean achievement for the DL,  especially  if one compares it with well-known Hamdard company  which even did not get such certificate despite having much more popular and  older than the DL.

Talking to Muslim Mirror, Dr. Sirajuddin Ahmad, chairman of Drugs Laboratories said “Ayush Premium Mark’ assures that the product quality and GMP requirement is of international standard”.  Terming it a big achievement, Dr Ahmad said DL has become the first Unani and top Ayurvedic Company in India to get this prestigious certificate.

India has emerged as the world leader in Unani medicine but it has not been able to export Unani medicine to the world and Ayush Premium Mark has opened new horizons and possibilities for the promotion of Unani system, he said.

 Ayush Premium Mark’ recognition is given by the Quality Council of India in collaboration with Ministry of Ayush government of India. ‘Ayush Premium Mark’ is mandatory for export of Ayush products and supply of medicine in government institutes.

The certificate recognises that the products of a particular company are based on GMP requirements that are based on WHO guidelines and followed worldwide.

Dr. Ahmad said ‘Drugs Laboratories’ is the first Unani Company to modernize Unani products according to market needs which has 64patented drugs.

Currently company has more than 50 patented products and 64 classical Unani products. Apart from this Ayurvedic product are also manufactured.

We have developed 12 highly-effective drugs for instant relief ranging from cough to fever and even now allopathic doctors also prescribed these drugs to patients, he said.

Drugs Laboratories” with a fervour to keep Unani and Ayurvedic flag high and to serve the mankind, initiated extensive research in the field of Herbal with modern techniques in quality control and production.

We are also working how to make Unani medicine more popular across the communities and the country as it is a very effective medicine which has no risk of any side-effect, he said who’s father Padma Shree Hakim Saifuddin Ahmad was a very prominent Unani Physician. Hakim Saifuddin was also served as a Unani Physician to three Indian Presidents and was also appointed as the first Unani advisor to the government of India.

Talking about his family association with Unani medicine, Dr. Sirajuddin said this profession has been running in our veins for more than seventh generation as he has inherited this from his father Hakim Saifuddin Ahmad. His both sons have also been assisting their father in this venture.

 We did not keep the family prescriptions secret but made it public for the benefit of the humanity, he added. Highlighting the company’s future plans, he said we are doing scientific research on a number of drugs including how to get rid of the dialysis  which has become a mandatory for a kidney patient and many more things.

Eight Muslims selected for Padma awards this year

The BJP-led Hindu nationalist government has conferred Padma awards on 119 personalities. The awardees include eight Muslims.

Two renowned Islamic scholars, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan and Maulana Kalbe Sadiq have also been selected for the award.

Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award have been presented to Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, while Maulana Kalbe Sadiq have been provided Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award.

Both the scholars had urged Muslims to give away their claim on Babri Masjid. Currently, a Ram Temple is being constructed on the site where Babri Masjid was standing till its demolition by Hindutva mobs, aided by BJP-RSS veterans, on 6 December 1992.

The awardees include, polymath Ali Manikfan, who has been awarded with the Padma Shri for his contribution in grassroots level innovations at Lakshwadeep. Born into an aristocratic family in 1938 in the Minicoy Island of Lakshwadeep, Manikfan is as marine researcher, ecologist, shipbuilder, agriculturist, and a polyglot.

Gulfam Ahmed from Uttar Pradesh for his contribution in the field of Art, Lakha Khan for Literature from Rajasthan, and Ghulam Rasool Khan for Art from Jammu and Kashmir, Sanjida Khatun for Art from Bangladesh and Col Quazi Sajjad Ali Zahir for Public Affairs from Bangladesh are among the recipients of the Padma Shri.

These awards cater to various disciplines including art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports and civil service. While ‘Padma Shri’ is awarded for distinguished service in any field, ‘Padma Bhushan’ is awarded for distinguished service of high order. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service.

Dr. Maryam Afifa Ansari to become the youngest neurosurgeon from Muslim community

Dr. Maryam Afifa Ansari, who has secured admission for a postgraduate course in neurosurgery at Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, is set to become the youngest neurosurgeon from India’s Muslim community following completion of her degree in three years.

She had gotten 137th rank in the All India NEET SS exams held in 2020.

Interestingly, Ms. Ansari, who has left many amazed with continuous successes, has been educated in Urdu medium schools till 10th class.

She studied till seventh class in the Tahzeen High School in Malegaon, Maharashtra. Then, she moved to Hyderabad and took admission to Princess Durrushawar Girls High School. She was a topper in her school in the 10th class examination and also a gold medalist.

After completing intermediate from MS Junior College, Hyderabad with the top rank, Afifa managed to take admission in MBBS at Osmania Medical College free of cost.

She received five gold medals during her MBBS course. After completing her course in 2017, she succeeded to get admission for a masters course in general surgery in the same college for free.

In 2019, she completed a postgraduate degree, MRCS, from Royal College of Surgeon, England.

In 2020, she did the Diplomate of National Board course. This is a special postgraduate degree awarded to the Specialist Doctors in India. After scoring high in the 2020 NEET SS exams, she was granted free admission in MCH at the Osmania Medical College.

Speaking to Muslim Mirror, she said ” my success is a gift from Allah and a responsibility’ .

She would try to serve the community through her profession, she added.

‘Don’t give up, never let anyone say you can’t do it… Prove them wrong, by achieving it, she said in her message to Muslim girls.

Ms. Ansari’s continuous hard work has helped her cross every hurdle on the path of success. She is an inspiration for the young generation in India.

How Azim Premji expanded his business from vegetable oils to info-tech and put his money where his heart is

The story of a person can be inspiring. The authors have chosen their subject well, for, everyone knows of Azim Premji, but few truly know what makes the man.

A book about such a person, if well-written, may possibly inspire the reader into action. In this case, soon after you read the book, it’s difficult not to look up the Azim Premji Foundation website, to see if it had any volunteering opportunities, even if you have done nothing like it before!

In chronicling any life, it is easy to get mired down with mind-numbing detail that comes your way if you are sifting through 50-odd years’ worth of the protagonist’s hits and misses. The authors have done well to stick to the most interesting parts of Premji’s life. Two things stand out across events and across time: his integrity and a penchant for frugality.

Zest for austerity

His insistence on paying for personal calls made on his office phone is legendary. His friends know of his love for cars but also about his unwillingness to spend fanciful amounts on one.

He once wanted to buy a Fiat that was registered in Wipro’s name. He got the finance department involved in the discussion as he wanted to play by the rules and pay for the purchase. But with depreciation, the car’s value was zero to the company. The transaction did not go through.

At one point, his friends were agog with excitement at his purchase of a Mercedes, but it was… hold your breath… a second-hand one!

At another time, when his team was preparing to welcome clients on a visit to headquarters, and took Premji over the arrangements that included meals from a five-star hotel, he quipped, “If our cafeteria is good enough for our employees, it should be good enough for clients too!”

It’s probably the same zest for austerity that had him pleased while on a U.S. visit, when two of his senior-most executives bought lunch for the three of them at a Burger King outlet for less than $7.50! And, this was a man who didn’t bat an eyelid when an employee of the vegetable oils business lost ₹25 lakh in a year in a trading position.

A long journey

The book chronicles the journey of Wipro from the time the Premjis put down roots in Mumbai. It throws light on the man’s spirit of entrepreneurship, as the company cautiously experimented with opportunities — expanding from vegetable oils to engineering products, computer hardware, tech services and consumer care and lighting. It also does not shy away from some of Wipro’s missteps such as the investment in financial services, a business which withered away despite the group’s entry into the space after much thought and preparation.

His management style

While doing justice to the man’s talent for perseverance, the authors have touched upon his management style that many say cramped some CEOs under his chairmanship. His taking over as CEO in 2005 after the abrupt exit of Vivek Paul, said to have been primed for the post, or his decision to have a joint CEO structure soon after, at a time when competitors were blazing ahead, had raised eyebrows in the world of IT services at the time.

The reader may get the sense that the authors occasionally sound deferential when talking about the man or his family. But, it’s difficult not to be overawed by someone who has never sold a single share in his company but who chose to give away $21 billion worth of wealth to his foundation, leaving his two sons with shares valued at about ₹65 crore. How can one give away so much wealth and still, on the morning the news about the latest transfer to the foundation breaks, irritably ask an employee — who speaks of congratulatory messages overwhelming social media — “What’s all the fuss about?” ?

This book is a must-read for anyone who can read English.

Renowned Islamic thinker and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind ideologue Dr. Muhammad Rafat passes away

Islamic scholar, prolific writer and senior ideologue of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Dr Muhammad Rafat, who recently retired as a professor from Jamia Millia Islamia has passed away on Friday evening at the Al-Shifa Hospital, New Delhi.

He was 65 years of old and is survived by three sons, two daughters and his widow. His widow-Nusrat-is the daughter of former President of the JIH and a well-known Islamic scholar, Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari.

In the presence of hundreds of mourners, he was laid to rest today  at the graveyard in Shaheen Bagh area. His funeral prayer was be held on Saturday evening here at the JIH Markaz mosque (Masjid Ishat-e-Islam).

Expressing condolences over his death, JIH President Syed Sadatullah Husaini said: “The demise of Dr Rafat is a great loss for the Muslim Ummah, the Islamic Movement and the entire country. He was a leading intellectual, tremendous leader, firm ideologue and a benevolent mentor. He was an erudite scholar of Islam and a prolific writer. He was blessed among many qualities with a razor sharp memory and an unmatched ability to give speeches on a myriad of topics without any notes in such a coherent manner that it would appear as if he is reading a written essay. He led an extremely simple life and had a very pleasant disposition. He was a teacher of theoretical physics. This subject of science has a deep connection with philosophy, so he made a direct study of philosophy and important ideas of science from its original sources. As one of the foremost ideologues of Jamaat, he always upheld and acted on the basic and core principles of Islam. May Allah forgive his sins and grant him the highest Paradise.”

A native of Khurja in Bulandshahr district of the Western UP, Dr. Rafat did his MSc in Physics from the Aligarh Muslim University in 1976 and PhD from IIT-Kanpur. He joined Jamia Millia Islamia in 1985, one year after receiving his PhD degree. He retired as Professor- Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities from the Jamia Millia on July 31, 2020.

Dr. Rafat, who was associated with the Islamic movement ever since his student days, was a member of the Central Advisory Council, the highest decision-making body of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind from 1999 till his death. He wrote more than 15 books on various subjects in Urdu and English languages.

Besides being director of the Centre for Study and Research (CSR) of JIH, for the last two years, he had also previously worked as chairman of the JIH’s Tasneefi Academy (Authors Academy) and all India secretary of the Jamaat’s Tarbiyah Department (Training Dept.). He also served as the JIH President of Delhi and Haryana from 1995 to 2011. He had also worked as honorary editor of Urdu monthly, Zindagi-e-Nau, an Islamic research magazine, from 2009 to 2019. Besides, he headed several important committees of the JIH for policy-formulation and the creation of new institutions and allied organizations.

A Class IX student of Government Girls High School in the town, Sk. Bashira, is not only winning appreciation for her prototype at the Telangana School Innovation Challenge (TSIC-2020) in Hyderabad, but IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao, understanding her family situation, also directed the authorities here to allot a 2BHK house.

Mr. Rama Rao who inspected her prototype – hydraulic lifting wheelchair – had interacted with Bashira and learnt about the family – a father attacked by paralysis, working mother and two other siblings in school.

Officials here said the Minister had phoned District Collector Prashant J Patil and instructed him to initiate the procedure to confirm one unit for the poor Muslim family. On Tuesday, Bashira brought her science model to the Collectorate along with her teacher Poornima, head mistress Pushpalatha and mother Imtiaz, and explained the model to Mr. Patil.

Bashira said her bedridden father Qayyum Basha, who had been a construction worker, was the source of inspiration for her hydraulic lifting wheelchair. Mr. Patil assured the family of a 2BHK unit at Gollaguda, and also said her younger sister Sk. Sameera who is in Class V at the Police Lines School now will be admitted to the Kendriya Vidyalaya in the next academic year. And brother Nagulmeera’s education will also be guided.

Appreciation

Impressed, Mr. Patil also said the young girl will be presented a certificate of appreciation on the Republic Day. Hydraulic lifting wheelchair – developed by Bashira-Jainab-Shameem team of students is currently among the TSIC-2020 top-25 teams. They will be participating in the State-level grand finale soon.

Makes a two-wheeled mobility aid for the dog enabling it to walk

Moved by the plight of an injured street dog, an animal lover of Singarayapalem village in Konijerla mandal designed a makeshift mobility aid using wheels of a kid’s stroller and pieces of plastic pipes helping the injured canine to move around.

Mohammed Aasha, a Registered Medical Practitioner (RMP), turned saviour for a dog struggling to move with both its rear legs badly injured with suspected multiple fractures near his residence two days ago.

He immediately shifted the dog to his home where he cleaned the injured legs and offered food to the canine.

The idea of making an improvised mobility aid struck him after he noticed the dog desperately trying to crawl by dragging its injured hind legs.

The Registered Medical Practitioner translated his idea into action by making a two-wheeled mobility aid resembling a wheel-chair by using the components of a defunct children’s stroller and toys besides some unused household items.

He then delicately attached the two-wheeled mobility aid to the dog enabling it to walk around providing the much-needed relief to the canine, albeit temporarily.

“The plight of the injured female dog aged above six years prompted me to design the makeshift mobility aid to alleviate its suffering,” Mr. Aasha told The Hindu.

“I rescued the street dog after finding it wreathing in pain on the roadside with its back legs injured,” the Registered Medical Practitioner said, adding that he would take the canine to the veterinary hospital in Khammam to ensure proper treatment for its injured legs and make it walk independently.

Kerala man propels ‘rocket’ solution to cooking woes

Putting an end to his expatriate life 27 years ago, Abdul Kareem, a native of Thrikkakara, had only one quest in life — to provide services for a seamless living.

 ‘Rocket stove,’ a new cooking facility which does not require LPG or electricity, is becoming  the new trend among families in the city. It uses firewood, coconut shells and waste paper as fuel, while reducing the emanation of smoke up to 80 per cent compared to traditional kitchen stoves. The stove provides a water heating facility and doubles up as an oven.

Putting an end to his expatriate life 27 years ago, Abdul Kareem, a native of Thrikkakara, had only one quest in life — to provide services for a seamless living. Using his earlier experience in manufacturing low-cost motor pumps, Kareem came up with ‘rocket stove’, which provides a sustainable twist to traditional cooking methods. 

“With four decades of experience in making furnaces, boilers, kitchens and other industrial materials, Rocket stove was developed out of my curiosity. Thanks to Covid-induced lockdown, I managed to finalise the design around six months ago and started the production,” said Kareem.

Rocket stove is based on the concept developed by the British in the 1850s. “Though it is an old idea, we transformed it to suit the requirements of Keralites,” he said. “Apart from traditional firewood, people can also use waste paper and other combustible dry waste in the stove.

All types of vessels including terracotta pots can be used on it. Compared to traditional units, a rocket stove will release only 10 to 20 per cent of smoke during its operation. It can be easily used in the balconies of flats without creating any disturbances to the neighbours,” he said.

The stove is currently available in five models. “The high-end model costs around Rs 14,000 and has a pipe to expel the smoke outside. This will be ideal for flats and apartments. A normal model with a basic stove will cost Rs 4,500. Remaining two models have options like grilling, oven, water heating etc. The oven model will provide heat up to 280°C,” said the 57-year old.

However, Kareem could not market the product properly due to the pandemic. “We are hoping that word of mouth will give us the much-needed traction. We are currently delivering orders received over the phone. Due to Covid restrictions, we had to stop selling them on the street as well,” he said.

The product was launched after various rounds of testing. “We have run many quality tests to ensure efficiency in the last six months. Besides, we have ensured that the product meets all safety standards. Depending on the demand for the product, we will move to large scale production soon,” he said.“In the case of a natural disaster or calamity and if electricity and LPG supply shuts down, the rocket stove will be a good alternative,” said Kareem.

Head Constable Iqbal Abdul Rashid Sheikh of Solapur cyber cell wins first place in CCTNS & 0ICJS

Head Constable   Iqbal Abdul Rashid Sheikh attached to the Solapur district cyber cell has won first place at national level competition onCCTNS-(Crime and criminal tracking network and system) and (ICJS- Interoperable  Criminal Justice system) organized by the National Crime Records Bureau, New Delhi.

A total of 260 police department employees from various Districts across India participated in the competition.

On December 16, Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla (Central Home Secretary, Government of India) declared the name of Iqbal shaikh and other winners of this cctns/icjs through video conference.

The video conference was attended by Shri J. Kishan Reddy (Minister of Home Affairs), President icjs Agrawal, Delhi Police Commissioner, all senior officers of India.

Speaking with Muslim Mirror Iqbal informed that NCRB organises competition of all the District Cyber cells to know the functioning of the cell and the actual situation of Cyber crimes in their respective areas. He said, total 6 entries had been sent from Maharashtra, among these 6 myself, Police Inspector Pande, Police Naik Kulkarni (Pune) topped this national level competition.

I am working since last 10 years with the Cyber cell. Through my 15 pages Power Point presentation and I tried to explain our functioning and way of working , results etc fortunately which was selected for highest place, he added.

It is notable that Maharashtra Home Minister Shri Anil Deshmukh has congratulated Iqbal and other officers on his Facebook page and expressed happiness over this excellent performance. Director General of police IPS Subodh Kumar have given cash prize of one lakh to HC Iqbal for bringing laurel to Maharashtra police

Police Constable Gajanan Mali says that our colleague Iqbal has made us proud by winning first place for our district at national level competition. It’s his labour ,dedication and sincerity towards duty.

36 years old Iqbal Shaikh had joined police department in 2003 . In 2019 he also won first in Akhil Bhartiye Kartavye Melava (investigation and Observation examination).

The Jeddah chapter of the Indo-Saudi Medical Forum (ISMF) was launched at the InterContinental Jeddah on Friday by Indian Ambassador Dr. Ausaf Sayeed. The event took place in the presence of prominent Saudi and Indian healthcare professionals in the western region.

Dr. Sayeed thanked Dr. Ashraf A. Amir, chief medical officer (CMO) at Jeddah’s high-profile International Medical Center (IMC), for agreeing to become the forum’s president. He also thanked veteran and popular Indian pediatrician, Dr. M.S. Karimuddin, for becoming the forum’s vice president.

The ambassador highlighted the great strides that have taken place in recent times in relations between Saudi Arabia and India. Dr. Sayeed said the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Saudi Arabia in October last year plus the signing of a series of important agreements in different fields, including healthcare, have provided new momentum to the two countries’ relationship.

The ambassador highlighted the immense opportunities that “are waiting to be tapped in the healthcare industry.” He said the new forum, led by an energetic and experienced team, would be a good platform for complementing the steps and initiatives being taken by both governments — in Riyadh and New Delhi — to increase cooperation in the field of healthcare. He pointed out that India had become the “pharmacy of the world” during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. “India stands ready to play its part in alleviating the difficulties of the global community during times of global health crises.”

Dr. Ashraf Amir promised to take all steps to achieve the stated objectives of the Indo-Saudi Medical Forum. He said the advancement of the Indian healthcare sector had been phenomenal and that Saudi Arabia had won international praise for its exceptional handling of the coronavirus crisis.

Acting Consul General Y. Sabir welcomed the guests. He noted that the Indo-Saudi Medical Forum aimed to serve as a key platform point for high-level informal interactions between the medical fraternities of both India and Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Karimuddin highlighted the many activities that the forum plans to undertake in the coming days and months. Among other things, he said: “An effort will be made to bring together corporations working in the healthcare sector, including hospitals, pharma and surgical equipment firms, in order to collaborate with a view to providing excellent healthcare for Saudi citizens and expats.”

Dr. Karimuddin said the Indo-Saudi Medical Forum was a nonprofit body under the patronage of the Embassy of India. The forum, made up of Indian and Saudi doctors and experts in the field of healthcare and wellness, will play a supporting role in strengthening India-Saudi Arabian cooperation related to healthcare. ISMF will have three chapters in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam.

Nouf Marwaai, award-winning yoga instructor, spoke about how India’s expertise and facilities in the field of wellness and holistic healthcare was relevant to the Saudi healthcare system.

She said the momentum for the present Saudi-Indian relationship began during Modi’s visit to the Kingdom in April 2016 when King Salman presented him with the Kingdom’s highest civilian decoration, the Sash of King Abdul Aziz. “This recognition is an indication of the importance the Kingdom attaches to its relations with India,” she said.

Dr. Iqbal Musani, general secretary of the forum, highlighted with a PowerPoint presentation the giant strides that India and Indian doctors have made in the field of medicine. 

Prominent among those who were present at the event included Hamna Maryam, consul (commerce) at the Indian Consulate in Jeddah; Mohammed Alungal, chairman of Abeer Medical Group; V.P. Mohammed Ali, chairman and managing director of Jeddah National Hospital; Dr. Kavitha Marusamy of Ibn Sina National College; Dr. Ataat Khan and Dr. A.H. Maniyar.

A large number of Indian and Saudi doctors also attended the launch virtually in view of COVID-19-related restrictions.
