Paradise team clinches BCC Premier League 2026 title

The two-day BCC Premier League 2026 (Season 3), an underarm cricket tournament organised by the Belvai Community Center (BCC), concluded successfully on February 1 at the SMP High School Ground. The tournament was held on January 31 and February 1 and witnessed enthusiastic participation and community support.

The inaugural function took place on January 31 and was chaired by BCC President Anwar Hussain Ismail. The programme was hosted by BCC Secretary Shaikh Fahad.

The tournament was managed by Events Manager Zahid Hussain, assisted by Mohammed Siraj, while the inauguration was formally carried out by Hasdulla Ismail.

Several prominent community members attended the inaugural ceremony, including Mohammed Saheb Usman, Nasir Shaikh Gulam Hussain, Anwar A. Karim, Shawkath Ali, Ameer Gause, Hussain Saheb, Nasir New Master, Munir Yousuf, Nasir A. Kareem, Abdul Qayyum and Azeem Jafar Saheb.

In the final match, Paradise Team emerged victorious and was crowned Champion of the BCC Premier League 2026 (Season 3). Team Belvai Friends finished as the runners-up after a competitive tournament.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, President Anwar Hussain Ismail said that such sporting events help promote harmony, discipline and team spirit within the community. He expressed gratitude to the main sponsors, ALS Borderless Logistics, Expertise, AR Arabian Logistics and Team Ten Racing. He also thanked all donors, well-wishers, BCC members, volunteers, team owners, players and members of the organising committee for their contributions to the success of the tournament.

IPS Officer Abdul Ahad Promoted to SSP

Senior IPS officer Abdul Ahad has been promoted to the grade of Senior Superintendent of Police (Selection Grade) with effect from January 1, 2025. He will continue serving in his current role as Director of Security and Vigilance at the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) until further orders.

This promotion places Ahad in Level 13 of the IPS Pay Matrix as per the IPS (Pay) Rules, 2016, reflecting his distinguished service in the force.

Ahad, who hails from Moodbidri in Dakshin Kannada district, has held several important positions throughout his career. Before his appointment to BMTC, he was serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Bengaluru’s Crime Branch (CCB). In September last year, he took over the role of Director for BMTC’s Security and Vigilance wing.

The senior officer’s tenure includes noteworthy stints as the DCP of Bengaluru’s Whitefield division, SP at the Coastal Security Police, SP of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Bengaluru, SP of Economic Offences Wing at CID, and Commandant at KSRP.

Ahad’s extensive experience in tackling economic crimes, corruption cases, and city crime has been instrumental in his rise through the ranks, marking another milestone in his illustrious career with this promotion.

Ahad is the younger brother of Abdus Salam Puttige, founder of popular Kannada daily Vartha Bharati, published from Bengaluru, Mangaluru and Shivamogga simultaneously. Fluent in Kannada, Urdu and Beary language, Ahad completed memorising the Quran from a local Madrasa in Karkala town at young age.

Ilaf Abdul Qadir: 9-Year-Old Martial Arts Prodigy Sets Guinness World Record

At just nine, Ilaf Abdul Qadir made history by achieving a Guinness World Record for nonstop kata in karate. His remarkable feat took place at the WKMA Open Karate Championship 2025, in Chennai on February 8, where he performed a 30-minute uninterrupted kata, showcasing endurance, discipline, and skill.

A third-grade student at Presidency School, Mangaluru, Qadir proved age is no barrier to excellence. His relentless training earned him both a world record and a gold medal in Kumite. He is the youngest contestant from Dakshina Kannada to compete, setting a benchmark for young athletes.

Born to Mohammed Musthafa and Asiya Juveria, Qadir’s success stems from rigorous training and commitment. He hones his skills under trainers Nadeem and Zakiya Yasmeen from the SHORIN RYU KARATE ASSOCIATION, Moodbidri. Their mentorship and his determination shaped him into an exceptional athlete.

Expressing gratitude, Qadir credited his coaches, parents, and school. “It was tough, but I wanted to push myself and prove hard work makes anything possible,” he said. His record-setting performance demanded stamina, precision, and mental strength, which he displayed effortlessly.

Qadir’s success brings pride to his family and inspires young martial artists. His journey proves determination, discipline, and guidance turn dreams into reality. Aspiring to compete internationally, he aims to bring more laurels to India.
