Chief Minister Pays Tribute to Amir-e-Shariat of Karnataka, Maulana Sagheerr Ahmed Khan Rashadi

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah paid his last respects to Hazrat Maulana Sagheerr Ahmed Khan Rashadi, Amir-e-Shariat of Karnataka and rector of Darul Uloom Sabilur Rashad, expressing deep grief over his passing. He conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength and patience during the period of mourning.

Recalling the life and work of the late scholar, the Chief Minister said Maulana Rashadi devoted his entire life to Islamic education, moral guidance, and the cause of communal harmony. He described him as a respected religious scholar and social leader whose influence reached far beyond classrooms and institutions. According to Siddaramaiah, the Maulana’s scholarship and counsel shaped generations of students and earned respect across religious and social communities.

Several senior leaders and officials attended the prayers, including Ministers K J George and Zameer Ahmed, Chief Minister’s Political Secretary Naseer Ahmed, and Additional Chief Secretary Anjum Pervez. Their presence underlined the regard held for the late Maulana within the administration and public life.

Community leaders also joined the gathering. Among them were Dr Belgami Mohammed Sa’ad, state president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Karnataka, Maulana Ifteqar Qasmi, president of Jamiat ul Ulema Karnataka, along with scholars and representatives from different walks of life.

The mortal remains of Maulana Sagheerr Ahmed Khan Rashadi were laid to rest at the burial ground within the Darul Uloom Sabilur Rashad campus.

The funeral prayer drew thousands of students from across Karnataka, fellow scholars, and members of the public.

His son, Maulana Zubair Ahmed Khan, led the prayer in an atmosphere marked by grief and reverence.

Speakers described the late Maulana as a symbol of knowledge, humility, and lifelong service whose legacy will guide future generations.

MEIF Excellence Awards and Annual Meet 2025 celebrates educational brilliance

The excellence awards ceremony and annual meet – 2025 of the Muslim Educational Institutions Federation (MEIF) of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, held at Barakah International School, Adyar Mangaluru, on May 22.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodbidri, said, “Education institutions should not be limited to one community. Education institutions should not be confined to the community that founded them. Instead, schools should reflect a “mini-India” that transcends barriers of religion, caste, and ethnicity. Everyone should have access to education. An atmosphere must be created where all are included. Just as India is home to various castes, religions, languages, and ethnicities, schools too should represent this diversity and become a mini-India. Schools should be a reflection of society, imparting education that builds communities rather than dividing them”

Praising the achievements of MEIF, Dr Mohan Alva also promised assistance in providing scouts and guides training to students in MEIF schools.

MEIF honorary president Umar T K delivered a keynote address, and MEIF president Moosabbi P Bary presided over the event.

A booklet detailing the federation’s annual programmes for 2024-25 was unveiled by Y Abdulla Javed, director of Yenepoya Group.

President of the Baraka Group of Institutions Ashraf Bajpe and Unni Haji, , along with Bahrain Sinan Zakariya, were honored during the ceremony.

National trainer Rajendra Bhat also shared his thoughts.

The event also included a felicitation ceremony honoring students who achieved outstanding results in PUC and SSLC examinations.

Outstanding SSLC performers from MEIF schools who were felicitated include Sumaiyya Nuha (619), Dakshin S Salian (618), Nidha Khadeeja Noor (617).

PUC toppers honored include Prithvi Acharya (585), Ayesha (584), Ayesha Shamran (584), Farahath M A (591), Maheen Fathima (590), Ayesha Falak (563), Aleemath Sayida (556), and Nafia T N (556).

From MEIF SSLC Kodagu – Fizah V (618), MEIF SSLC Chikkamagaluru – Taheen Fathima (597), and Karnataka SSLC state topper Shagufta Anjum from Sirsi (625) were also felicitated with mementos and cash awards.

Vice president of the Presidency Group of Institutions Suhail Ahmed and president of the Manipal HPR Group of Institutions Hariprasad Rai, were present as chief guests and extended their best wishes.

MEIF East Zone vice president Mustafa Sullia welcomed the gathering. General secretary Riyaz Ahmed K B and secretary Mohammad Sharik announced the names of the award-winning students. Farvez Ali delivered the vote of thanks, and lecturer Abdul Razak Anantadi compered the event.

MEIF Kodagu chapter president K A Shadli, Chikkamagaluru chapter president Zameer Ahmed, vice president Shabih Ahmed Qazi, and treasurer Nisar Fakir Mohammad were also present on the occasion.

Eid Meelad cricket tournament held

Eid Meelad-un-Nabi Cricket Tournament – 2024, organised by Mysore Meelad Cricket Association as part of Eid Meelad festival was held at Maharaja’s College Cricket Grounds in city recently.

A total of 24 teams participated in the tournament in which Titan Cricket team won the tournament while Moonstar Cricket team secured the runners up place.

Batting first, Titan Cricket team scored 198 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Chasing the target, Moonstar team could score 183 runs and lost all their wickets.

Rohan Naveen, who scored 115 runs and bagged three wickets, was declared ‘Man of the Match’ while ‘Best Batsman and Man of the Series’ was awarded to Imran and ‘Best Bowler’ was awarded to Kifayat.

Mysore Meelad Cricket Association office-bearers Akram, Zameer Ahmed, Suhail Baig, Mubarak, Abrar Ahmed, Javeed Pasha, Kouar Pasha, Rahman, Azhar, Sagir, Mahboob, Nopor Ahmed, Haseeb, Saif, Siddiq, Afroz and others were present.
