Riot-hit Northeast Delhi’s Muslim Girl Student Shines In CBSE Exams

DELHI :

New Delhi :

Vision-2026, a project of NGO Human Welfare Foundation (HWF) has announced to bear all the future educational expenses of Muslim girl, who was a victim of Delhi riots but scored excellent marks in her Std XII examinations.

A labourer’s daughter, Nargis Nasim(17), who studied in Std XII in a government school in Northeast Delhi scored 62 per cent marks in two subjects of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examination bringing smiles on the faces of her family members and relatives.

HWF’s chief executive officer(CEO) Mohammed Naufal said that the house of the girl that was completely gutted during the riots was reapired by the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind(JIH( at a cost of about Rs. 1.84 lakhs. “Our MNGO will now financie the educational cost of the girl”, said Naufal.

Regarding the score, Nargis is surprised saying that she had thought of merely passing the exam and the first class score had left her wonderstruck. “Initially, I thought that clearing the exams alone would be difficult and during my second thought, I felt that I would only get through the exam,” she said.

Her house located in Khajuri Khas was burnt down the next day of February 24 when riots broke out in the locality. She had stepped out of her house along with her relative to appear for the physical education examination and returned home safely. However, the next day the rioters burnt her house and the entire family was forced to take shelter in a rented room in Chandu Nagar where other riot victims were also provided temporary relief shelters as protection from the mayhem and destruction. All her books were lost in the fire set to her house by the rioters. Her family members through donations managed to provide her news book for study.

Nargis could manage to appear only for two subjects-political science and physical education-as the outbreak of COVID 19 led to suspension of the exams till further notice.

Narrating about her harrowing experience, she said “I was with my relative at the time of appearing for physical education at Gokulpuri government school when I saw violence taking place in the area. We reached home at 4 pm but after a lot of struggle wading through the lanes as public transport had shut down,” she said.

On her impressive score, Nargis explained that an NGO helped her with books and guided her in studies which helped her appear in the exams with confidence. “During normal times, I would have done better than my current performance. The CBSE board has now declared that the students can reappear for the cancelled subjects. It is too late and one does not know how long it would take for the conduct of the exams by the board. Right now, I am preparing myself for the college admission,” she said.

Her uncle Salim, who stood rock-solid behind the family during the crisis, said, “ Her achievement is commendable as despite the odd and difficult situation, Nargis scored 60 percent. Her achievement is very important for the family as we have been running helter-skelter seeking shelter and survival during such dangerous and trying time”, he said.

Iqra aims to create leaders for community: Syed Mohamed Beary at Annual Day in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, KARNATAKA :

Mangaluru:

“The aim of Iqra is to create leaders for the community,” said Syed Mohamed Beary while presiding over the Annual Day 2026 and Hifz felicitation programme of Iqra Arabic School, highlighting the institution’s focus on leadership and long-term community development.

Presiding over the event, Syed Mohamed Beary, Chairman of the Moulana Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi Educational and Charitable Trust, Mangaluru, spoke at length about the journey of the institution since its launch in 2000. He recalled the early days of the school and said it was started with a clear vision to serve the community through education rooted in values. He expressed pride in how the institution has grown over the years, both in strength and in its role within the community.

He said Iqra Arabic School was not built only to provide basic education, but to nurture individuals who can take responsibility and guide society. According to him, the institution has consistently worked towards shaping students into capable leaders who can face present-day challenges while staying connected to their roots. He stressed that the focus has always been on building character along with knowledge.

The programme was compered by Moulana Farhan Nadwi, who introduced the vision of the institution and said the school strives to prepare leaders and scholars who can respond to modern challenges faced by the community.

Chief guest Moulana Maqbool Kobatte, Principal, Jamia Islamia Bhatkal, congratulated the students and their parents for completing the memorisation of the Qur’an. He said these Huffaz are part of Allah’s promise of preserving the Qur’an until the Day of Judgement. He described the Qur’an as a guide for life and said while recitation is important, it is equally necessary to practise its teachings. He also noted that in the race for worldly success, people are moving away from values such as humanity, brotherhood and unity.

Taha Mateen, Chairman and Managing Director of ACURA Speciality Hospital, said the community should not forget its Islamic roots and history. He recited lines of poetry by Iqbal: “Kabhi ae nawjawaan Muslim tadabbur bhi kiya tu ne, wo kya gardu tha tu jiska hai ek toota hua taara.” He stressed the need to understand the Qur’an and recognise its importance, and urged students to continue learning across different fields without stopping at any stage. He congratulated the students, parents and the management.

Dr. C P Habeeb Rahman, Chairman and Managing Director of Unity Health Complex, Mangaluru said there is a need for introspection within the Muslim community to understand what has gone wrong and why it has fallen behind despite contributing to global civilisation. He also spoke about the lack of leadership within the community.

Students presented cultural programmes based on Islamic teachings during the event. Two of the books authored by the students of the institution were also released during the event.

A total of 18 students who completed Hifz this year were felicitated and presented with mementos by the guests. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Moulana Salim Khalifa, the principal of the institution.

Professor Ahmad Sajjad was also a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and served on its Markazi Shura.

He was a great Islamic scholar and Urdu literary figure. His Urdu books include Jadeed Nazriyat ki Khuli Nakami aur Islam ka Roshan Mustaqbil (1990), Hindustan ka Jadeed Taleemi Inquilab aur Muslim Aqliyat (2000), Ekiswin Sadi ka Challenge aur Milli Taleemi Agenda (2014), Tanqeed-o-Tehreek (1979), Tameeri Adabi Tahreek (1994), Tanqeed-o-Tanqeeh (2015), Kya Barre-e-Sagheer ki Urdu Abadi Azab-e-Musalsal ka Shikar Hai (2014), Meer Ghulaam Ali Ishrat Barelvi (1978), and Banda-e-Momin ka Hath ya Tareekh All India Momin Conference (2011).

Besides, he compiled many books, including Bunyadi Masail aur Unka Hal (1973). He was also Editor-in-Chief of Urdu literary magazine, Fankar, published from Hyderabad. For Idris Hostel, he travelled across India with medical students to raise support and mobilise efforts. These two collective projects in Ranchi stand as lasting testimony to his leadership and dedication.

When he was elected President of Idara Adab-e-Islami Hind in 1982, he devoted all his energy, and his heartfelt commitment to the organisation. His tenure remains one of its brightest chapters, especially in terms of organisational tours, literary activities, and mushairas, where he left a remarkable mark. He had also held several discussions with the late Syed Asad Gilani on building an international front for Islamic literature.

Professor Sajjad was a sincere, active, dynamic, compassionate, and visionary personality. One of his greatest qualities was that wherever he lived, he remained fully engaged with his surroundings – constantly striving, questioning, and confronting challenges. Courage, bravery, and speaking the truth were his defining traits. He was straightforward and passionate in expressing his views. His opinions, particularly on the issue of elections, were widely discussed. Whatever work he took part in, he did so wholeheartedly. There was neither hypocrisy nor unnecessary compromise in his character.

His demise is an irreparable loss not only for the Islamic movement but also for Urdu literature and Islamic thought. He was a scholar and man of letters whose writings will continue to serve as a guiding light for future generations.

Exploring Faith: Hidhaaya Students Take Lead in Interfaith Research

Chennai, TAMIL NADU:

In an innovative educational endeavour that takes place in Chennai, Aalimah students gain exposure to the study of comparative religion through a disciplined approach.

Chennai: A momentous academic occasion took place at Hidhaaya Islamic College for Girls, as third year Aalimah students plunged themselves into researching world religions. As a part of their course curriculum for the fifth semester, the students conducted research about world religions, which culminated in the submission of research papers in the sixth semester.

To begin with, the session started off on a tranquil note with recitation from the Holy Qur’an done by third year Aalimah student Hameera. The session was chaired by Burooj Association President and third year Aalimah student Arshiya. She addressed the participants and Guests with an opening welcome speech.

The presentations were evaluated by distinguished guests including, Dr. K.V.S. Habib Mohammad, eminent scholar of Islam, writer and Shura member of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (Tamil Nadu) and Mr. Jalaluddin, Correspondent of Good Word Public School and Vice President of JIH Tamil Nadu and chairman Nazeer Ataullah of Hidhaaya Islamic College for girls.

With regard to the study of Sikhism, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism, five of the students made a commendable effort to understand the beliefs, holy books, and rituals of each religion. Their understanding showed in their thoughtfully prepared PowerPoint presentations. The analysis was enriched by yet another five students who compared the five religions mentioned above with Islam.

The whole exercise was an exemplar in both research and intellectual engagement. The evaluation panel acknowledged the effort of the students and suggested ways to improve the academic methodology and presentation style.

Pointing out the importance of such exercises, Dr. Habib Mohammad described it as a groundbreaking initiative by Hidhaaya Islamic College for Girls. This is truly a commendable and progressive initiative. Stating the necessity of comparative study of religions, he commented:

“Comparative study of various religions is very important to develop a better understanding. It is just the beginning of a long academic journey which needs to be taken further with sincerity and respect.”

He also recommended that students take up specialisation in one religion for greater knowledge and suggested that they should refer to the primary source of any religion to acquire true knowledge. He exhorted students to adopt an open mind with respect and regard for all religious beliefs.

This project represents a milestone effort towards the creation of enlightened and thoughtful women who have a proper understanding of the complexities of a pluralistic world.

In acknowledging the significance of this endeavour, Dr. Habib Mohammad mentioned how much the participants seemed to know about their disciplines, which was evident from their active involvement with the literary and intellectual aspect of religion. He also commented on how this programme reflects the institution’s academic excellence and hints at the future success of graduates.

Likewise, Mr. Jalaluddin appreciated the high calibre of performances and gave useful advice regarding improvements in terms of language skills and presentation techniques.

The event concluded with a warm vote of thanks offered by student Ashiqua, one of the 3rd Aalimah students.

“When knowledge is guided by understanding and compassion, it becomes a force that not only enlightens minds but also unites humanity.”

Muslim Sisters from Meerut Excel in UP Board Exams Without Coaching

Meerut, UTTAR PRADESH :

The sisters come from a modest background. Their father, Abdul Malik, works as a carpenter, while their mother studied up to Class 9.

Two sisters from Meerut have drawn attention with their impressive performance in the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad examinations, securing the top two positions in the district.

Adeeba Malik scored 95.68 per cent in the high school examination to secure first place, while her sister Shifa Malik ranked second with 82 per cent in the science stream.

Their achievement has brought joy to the locality, with residents visiting their home to congratulate the family.

Adeeba attributed her success to discipline and consistency. “I studied for long hours every day and stayed focused. Hard work and a proper routine helped me achieve this result,” she said. She scored full marks in mathematics, her strongest subject.

Notably, she prepared entirely at home without any tuition or coaching support.

The sisters come from a modest background. Their father, Abdul Malik, works as a carpenter, while their mother studied up to Class 9. Expressing his pride, Abdul Malik said, “I could not study much myself, but my daughter is making me proud. There is no difference between a son and a daughter. I want her to study and move ahead.”

The sisters were felicitated at St Joseph Inter College, where teachers and students celebrated their success. Sweets were distributed, and similar celebrations were held at their home.

Family members said the achievement reflects the sisters’ consistent dedication and hard work.

Adeeba aspires to become an IAS officer and serve the country.

Education experts say such success stories are significant, especially in areas where awareness about girls’ education is still evolving and students often face challenges in continuing their studies. The sisters’ achievement is being seen as an inspiring example for others.

One teacher, one student and a chance to rewrite destiny

Manuguru / Karimnagar, TELANGANA :

Recognising Hanif’s potential, Javed has been providing everything needed to ensure that his studies continue.

Md Javed, a Hindi teacher at the Government High School in Savaran, explains the working principle of a telescope to his student, Syed Hanif.(Photo | Express)

Karimnagar :

It began years ago with one struggling student — a boy who is now a software engineer in Hyderabad.

Today, government school teacher Md Javed is repeating that quiet act of kindness. Determined that poverty should not crush talent, he has stepped forward to support another promising student, Syed Hanif.

Javed, a Hindi teacher at Government High School in Savaran, has taken responsibility for the education and welfare of Hanif, a Class 9 student from a financially struggling family. The teacher has promised to support him until he completes his SSC.

For the teacher, this is not the first time he has changed a life. Earlier, while working at Government High School Dhangarwadi, he had supported another poor student — a boy who today works as a techie in Hyderabad.

Recognising Hanif’s potential, Javed has been providing everything needed to ensure that his studies continue. He arranged a bicycle for the student to commute to school, pays the rent for his room and has also arranged tuition in mathematics and spoken English, facilities usually available only to private school students.

To encourage better learning habits, the teacher provides Hanif with newspapers, study materials and nutritious food, including fruits. A small library has also been set up in the room where the student stays. Javed’s gesture has inspired others at the school. Fellow teachers recently contributed Rs 10,000 to support the boy’s education.

Hanif’s family had migrated to Karimnagar from Manuguru in search of work. His father earns a livelihood by selling buttermilk on a pushcart. To help the family become financially stable, Javed even purchased a pushcart and handed it over to Hanif’s father.

“I recognised Hanif’s talent, but poverty was holding him back. I wanted to ensure he gets the opportunity to succeed and become a responsible citizen,” Javed tells TNIE. With support from donors, he now spends nearly `1 lakh every year on Hanif’s education and other needs.

Hanif said the support has changed his life. “Earlier, I struggled to focus on studies because of our financial problems. Now I feel confident and can concentrate on my education,” he says.

Javed believes the boy will perform well in the SSC examinations among students from nearly 20 government schools in Karimnagar.

Deaf, Dumb and Disabled, But This Young Tripura Muslim Girl Shows Determination

Pramod Nagar Village (Jampui Jala Block), TRIPURA :

Taslima Akhtar overcomes severe disability and poverty to score 80 per cent in Madhyamik; Tripura police inspector Ajit Debbarma visits her with an offer of full support

Agartala :

Seventeen-year-old Taslima Akhtar can only see. She cannot speak and cannot hear. Born deaf and dumb, with her right hand also disabled, she understands the world through signs and expressions, and responds with quiet strength.

Despite these challenges, Taslima has shown remarkable academic ability. She scored 80 per cent in her Madhyamik examination, surprising many in her remote village.

Taslima belongs to Pramod Nagar village in the tribal-majority Jampui Jala Block of Tripura. Her father, Syed Ali, is a daily-wage labourer. The family lives in deep poverty and does not have a strong permanent house.

In such conditions, her academic success has become a source of hope for the entire family.

“She has always been good in studies,” her father said. “We are poor people, but she never gave up. She writes with her left hand and studies on her own.”

Because her right hand is disabled, Taslima writes using her left hand. Without any special tutor or extra coaching, she managed to secure 80 per cent in her board examination.

Now she is preparing to appear for the Higher Secondary examination under the Tripura Board, which begins on the 25th of this month.

Police Officer Visits to Encourage

When news of her struggle and achievement reached local authorities, Officer-in-Charge and Inspector Ajit Debbarma of Bishramganj police station visited her home.

Debbarma is known locally for his humanitarian work. After hearing about the bright but underprivileged Muslim girl, he decided to meet her personally.

He brought fruits, nutritious food items and educational materials for Taslima. He also provided some financial assistance to support her studies.

Speaking during the visit, Debbarma said, “Her intelligence and courage have deeply moved me. She has achieved 80 per cent despite so many hardships. I am confident she can score 95 per cent in Higher Secondary.”

He added, “We will support her at every stage, including college admission. I have given my personal phone number to her father. They can contact me whenever they need help.”

Social Media Praise

The gesture of a tribal police officer supporting a poor, disabled Muslim girl has been widely appreciated on social media.

Residents said the visit has sent a positive message. One villager said, “In times when society often talks about division, this kind of support gives hope.”

For Taslima, the path is still difficult. Yet her determination remains firm. Through her eyes and her effort, she continues to move forward, turning silence and darkness into strength through education.

Her father looked at her with pride and said softly, “She cannot speak, but her results speak for her.”
