Dr Abdul Shakeel has been selected for the coveted Asia Achievers award given by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre Colombo and High Commission of India Colombo for his social service including providing rice to more than 10000 eligible families cutting across religion and caste during Covid pandemic, adopting students who are financially poor and encouragement to outstanding students.
The award will be presented by Vidura Vikramanayake, minister for religious and cultural affairs, government of Sri Lanka and higher education minister of Sri Lanka Surena Raghavan at the 40th International cultural convention that is organized on August 25 at the auditorium of University of Visual and Performing Arts in Sri Lanka.
Dr Abdul Shakeel is the son of Abdul Khader Harekala and Maimuna couple, residents of Deralakatte Renjadi under Ullal taluk.
He is NRI entrepreneur having business interest in gulf countries. Dr Shakeel is the managing director of MMA Advertisement and interiors Saudi Arabia, Dubai, managing director of Grey Line Interior and Advertisement (UAE) and director of Readymix Concrete, India.
Dr Shakeel reserves 50% of profits of his business for social work through Dr Abdul Shakeel Charitable trust. During Corona pandemic he felicitated doctors, medical profession helpers and social workers who worked risking their own lives. Dr Shakeel supports youth, who are financially poor, to compete in national and international level sports and other activities. He has encouraged hundreds of children to get educated. He has also adopted several children. Dr Shakeel paid the educational expenses of students of backward community who have scored high marks in examinations and also took complete responsibility of their education. He has built houses for homeless people. Dr Shakeel also rendered financial help to those who get stuck in overseas countries. In addition, he has provided employment to hundreds of people in gulf countries.

KKMA Student Awards, ‘Family Benefit Scheme Distribution’ held in Mangaluru

Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association (Karnataka Chapter) held a ceremony on Sunday, July 30, at the Highland Islamic Forum (HIF) Auditorium in Falnir.
The event aimed to provide assistance and recognition to its members and their families through various welfare schemes and awards.
During the ceremony, the Family Benefit Scheme was distributed to the families of deceased members as a compassionate gesture from the association.
Additionally, the deserving patients were recipients of the Free Dialysis Scheme, providing vital medical support to those in need.
The occasion also saw the distribution of the Late SM Basheer Memorial Student Scholarships, which offer educational support to deserving students.
Moreover, the Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon CAO of Shepherd International Academy, Hasan Yusuf, a respected figure recognized for his substantial contributions to social services over the years.
NA Muneer, the former chairman and trustee of KKMA, delivered the inaugural speech, highlighting the association’s commitment to taking care of its members even after their passing. He emphasized how the association, which began in 2002 and now boasts over 16,000 members, has been able to extend financial assistance totaling more than Rs. 15 crore to 255 families who have lost their loved ones. Muneer applauded the selfless contributions of KKMA members, who, despite being small-time earners, generously contribute from their hard-earned money to support bereaved families. He urged the families of the deceased members to pray for the well-being of KKMA members, who tirelessly work for this noble cause.
Yusuf Rasheed, the KKMA Karnataka president, delivered the presidential address, underscoring the association’s dedication to the well-being of its members and the underprivileged within society. This dedication is evident through the distribution of facilities such as free dialysis and educational scholarships, aimed at uplifting and empowering the community.
The ceremony also witnessed an address by Architect Mohammed Nissar, Chairman of Indian Design School Mangaluru. Nissar encouraged the scholarship recipients to make the most of the opportunity and urged the association to provide guidance to these students so they can pursue professions that benefit both themselves and the wider community.

On March 19, 2023, the Human Welfare Foundation (HWF) held a scholarship distribution program at the India Islamic Cultural Centre, where 150 students from the Delhi region were awarded scholarships. The Chairman of HWF and retired IAS officer, Siraj Hussain, emphasized the importance of education and encouraged students to prioritize it by putting their goals first. He also stressed the value of reading, particularly newspapers and books, as sources of knowledge that could help students excel in any course they choose.
HWF’s scholarship program is open to students who have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership potential, and scholarships are awarded based on merit and financial need. The funds cover tuition fees, books, and other related expenses. The organization has distributed over 8200 UG, PG, and Special Scholarships, and 4500 scholarships to orphan students.
The Chief Guest at the event was Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Ashar Alam, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, discussed the options for higher studies offered by the university and offered support for HWF’s education empowerment activities. T. Arifali, Chairman of Vision 2026, the flagship project of HWF, delivered the inaugural address.
Dr. Syed Farooq, President of Himalaya Drug, praised HWF’s activities and emphasized the importance of taking advantage of the resources available in the present age. Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) expressed its pride in being awarded the Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF) of 12 research scholars of the university under the Lateral Entry Scheme of the May 2022 drive.

Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) expressed its pride in being awarded the Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF) of 12 research scholars of the university under the Lateral Entry Scheme of the May 2022 drive.
According to the PMRF Coordinator, JMI Professor Abdul Quaiyum Ansari, the researchers will individually get a fellowship of Rs 70,000 for the first two years, Rs 75,000 for third year, Rs.80,000 for the fourth and fifth year respectively. Apart from this, each fellow will get a research grant of Rs. 2 Lakhs per year (a total of Rs 10 Lakhs for five years) under the PMRF.
The JMI has improved its performance significantly as in 2021 six research scholars were selected for the PMRF under the Lateral Entry Scheme of the December 2020 drive. The university has also shared the name of students, their recommender and the Department/Centres selected for Lateral Entry Scheme of the May 2022 drive

Bazm-E-Niswan, an all women’s charitable trust distributed Rs. 1 crore 51 lakhs in scholarships to 4146 female students from the economically weaker section of the community on Sunday. While 2,166 beneficiaries are PU students, 1,796 are pursuing undergraduate courses. As many as 59 are diploma students and 125 are post-graduate students.
The organisation has been distributing scholarships since its inception in 1971 and has so far given financial aid to over 67000 students to complete their higher education
The purpose behind the yearly scholarships is to encourage Muslim girls from deprived sections to pursue higher studies, Mrs Husna Ziaullah Sheriff, president, Bazm-E-Niswan said.
These girls are now successfully qualified as teachers, professors, doctors, lawyers, government officers, businesswomen, engineers, journalists, trainers, nurses, paramedics and in many other professional courses, she said.
Students applied for the scholarship online through Bazm-E-Niswan’ website. Candidates were required to fill out an online application and submit the hard copy of the application at the trust’s office. The fresh students who had secured more than 50 per cent in their previous exam were selected.
“We received 5,200 online applications this year as against 4,505 last year. The increase in applications indicates the growing need for scholarship due to the financial crisis post Covid 19,” Ms Sheriff said.
“Overall 69.7% students belong to BPL families and 30.3% belong to non BPL families,” she said.
However, the total number of applicants in Post Graduation was only 152, compared to 2,350 in Under Graduation. “This shows only 6.46% girls pursue Post graduation after completing their UG,” it was observed.

A one-of-its-kind campaign is providing deserving students personalised free training to appear for civil service exams

For 28-year-old Shabina Khan, joining the IAS always seemed like a distant dream. Born into a poor family, she had to struggle to complete her education. On Sunday, Khan, who will be sitting for the UPSC exam, will be a step closer to fulfilling her dream, thanks to the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam IAS-IPS Exam campaign, initiated in 2018.
Actively supported by Anjuman-I-Islam and All India Khilafat Committee, the campaign is providing deserving students personalised coaching, guidance and free training for the MPSC and UPSC exams. After a brief lull during the pandemic, which forced them to move all their classes online, the initiative formally launched in February this year. “Since February, 125 students have enrolled with us,” said Gulam Nabi Idrisi, founder chairman of the initiative.
According to Idrisi, several government officials are associated with the campaign, and are helping set mock test papers. The students already gave three mock tests in the month of May, and will be appearing for the UPSC preliminary exams scheduled today.
Speaking with mid-day, Shabnam Shamim Choudhary, 25, resident of Jari Mari, Kurla, said, “I wanted to become an IAS officer, but my family couldn’t afford the fees of the institute or even pay for the study material. This initiative has come as a blessing. I have managed to get at least basic training, so that I can take a shot at the UPSC exam.” Out of the 125 students enrolled with the campaign, 60 hail from Dongri. “We have been providing them with free food and accommodation. The students living in our facility belong to marginalised minority communities,” said Idrisi. The campaign is currently supporting Muslim, Buddhist, Jain, Christian, Parsi and Sikh students, who wish to appear for civil service exams.
Dr Zahir Kazi, President, Anjuman-I-Islam, said, “The administration must have representation of all sects and religions. Unfortunately, due to lack of facility and funds most of the students cannot pursue this dream.”
Sarfaraz Arzu, chairman, All India Khilafat Committee, shares his sentiments. “If we have to solve community issues, the presence of marginalised and minority officials [in administration] is a must.”

SEED has been an active organization providing education to 15,000 students studying in 58 schools and has provided around 2 crores of scholarships to school-going students.

Two philanthropic organizations SEED-USA and Helping Hand Foundation provided scholarships worth Rs 24 lakh to several meritorious students in Hyderabad.
“Education is our top priority and we have spent approximately 5 crores on education this year,” said Syed Mazhar Hussaini, founder of SEED-USA.
SEED, which stands for Support for Educational and Economic Development USA, was founded in 2009.
SEED has been an active organization providing education to 15,000 students studying in 58 schools and has provided around 2 crores of scholarships to school-going students.
On August 14, SEED and Helping Hand Foundation held a memorial and Merit Scholarship Award for students across India at the MESCO Convention Centre, Hyderabad. Students from Hyderabad and other parts of the country attended the award function. The 57 award recipients were from different backgrounds, including 11 MBBS Students, 13 PhD Students and 33 Master’s students from different streams.
“The services of the SEED organisation are also being extended to provide mentoring services to the widows & destitute families and provide placement assistance to vocational training graduates; around 757 widows and single mothers got support from seed recently,” Husaini said in his speech.
The donors of the SEED include philanthropists and helping Non-Residential Indians (NRIs). These donations are dispersed through various activities conducted by Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) permitted NGOs based in India.
SEED is working to provide modern education to poor children in slum areas of cities in India and aims to increase scholarships in states in North India. They aspire to increase vocational training in other states (other than Telangana).
Chief guest Prof. Amirullah Khan, who is a Development and Trade Economist emphasized the need for education to build a prosperous nation. He highlighted that only a small percentage of students make it to school and even fewer numbers manage to go to college because of financial constraints.
Mujtaba Hussain Askari, who is the founder and managing trustee of the Helping Hand Foundation, was also present at the occasion.

Employment opportunities have dipped down drastically but students of Fullstack Academy have been placed in esteemed companies with jobs fetching as high as RS.7 lac per annum.

So, in order to ensure that the youth from the Muslim community are not left out, Mohammad Aijaz and Abu Bakar Aijaz started the Fullstack Academy.
The academy has been founded in the year 2019 by industry veterans who have more than 25 years of experience in Microsoft and Tech Mahindra. They wanted to ensure that the youth of the community are not lagging behind in terms of skills required in communication, spoken English, software skills. Students coming out of college lack the qualification or skills needed to crack the type of jobs that are in demand and land up in mediocre jobs.
But unfortunately within months of initiating this dream venture, the lockdown was announced. But instead of being disheartened by this, the duo went ahead with their plan and announced online courses. Interested youth began enrolling for the online classes and the academy functioned smoothly.
Today they have gone offline and admissions are on filling every batch. So far they have trained 800 Youth and placed 55% in top companies. Some have gone abroad to pursue higher studies armed with the courses from FSA with which they get good paying jobs while they continue their studies.
Most of the courses students going abroad do courses in programming and development area. These courses are in demand globally.
“Web application is the latest technology and in high demand with every company wanting to develop web applications. Fullstack Academy specializes in mobile app technology the resource of which is not commonly available” explained Mohammed Aijaz.
Another salient feature of this academy is that the trainers are working professionals who come and demonstrate the real time scenarios. This helps the students while applying for jobs. Every course offered by the academy has different professionals already employed in top positions in world class companies.
The courses offered by the Full Stack Academy that are the need of the present times for software industries can be broadly categorized are programming, MERN, cloud computing, Data science – predictive business analytics, Android App development, Amazon web services, UI/UX designing courses, Selenium Automation testing and many more.

The students are not taught just the professional courses, Aijaz and Abu Bakar ensure that they are groomed for interviews and also learn to communicate in English which is another weak area of most of the students from the community.
Another student Ayesha Moiz who has been employed as Assistant system engineer at Infosys said, “ I received support from Fullstack academy not only when I was doing the course but even now when I am employed. I am in a probation period here and whenever I am stuck with some programming, I call up my Aijaz sir and seek his support to trouble shoot the problem. I am very happy with the training and assistance in job placement and I highly recommend Fullstack Academy, she told Muslim Mirror.
The students from economically poor backgrounds are provided with an opportunity to apply for scholarship from IMRC (Indian Muslim Relief and charities). The Full Stack Academy (FSA) facilitates a written exam for the applicants to qualify for scholarship from IMRC. After the written tests there is an interview after which qualifying students are assisted with scholarship wherein they pay just 25% of the fees while the IMRC pays 75% of the fees.
Students enroll here not just from Hyderabad but also from different states of India.
“Every time one of our students gets a placement in a coveted company, it is like we have climbed one notch of the high ladder of success. The success of our students is like our own success, it is as if we have bagged the job. Each success story fills our hearts with happiness and makes us want to better ourselves” shared Md Aijaz.

Have you ever wondered why all philanthropic activities start from the South and why North India remains behind? When Al-Shifa Hospital has to be built in Delhi, Prof KA Siddique Hassan Sb had to come from Kerala, said Dr. SY Qureshi, Former Chief Election Commissioner.
Speaking on the occasion of Prof K A Siddique Hassan Memorial PG Scholarship Distribution Function organized by Human Welfare Foundation (HWF), at India Islamic Cultural Centre here, Dr. Qureshi said that the most worrying fact was that today Muslims were not following the teachings of Islam. Islam’s first commandment was to read. Unfortunately, Muslims are far away from education.
Dr. SY Qureshi was the Chief Guest on the occasion in which two major projects of the Human Welfare Foundation under the aegis of Vision 2026 were announced.
“Despite discrimination, if you are good at what you do, you will get an opportunity and only quality education will bring that change. The practice of fictitious degrees in northern India is destroying generations. I am pleased that the Human Welfare Foundation has taken practical steps for quality education, which are proving fruitful,” Dr. Qureshi added.
Dr. Siraj Hussain, IAS (Retd) Chairman, Human Welfare Foundation, in his presidential address, said that education as a sector has taken a hit in the last couple of years.
Quoting the Annual Status of Education Report, he said that the enrolment in private schools has gone down due to the financial crisis. This happened after many decades. Offline classes are yet to start in prominent universities. Quality of education is going to be a big challenge in the coming times.
“In my interaction with students receiving the scholarship today, I observed that the students are all committed towards their academics,” Dr. Siraj Hussain said.
He wished the students willing to pursue civil services and journalism to show true dedication, which can only bring success. He also reminisced his association with Prof K A Siddique Hassan Sb and said that the scholarships and the newly announced projects are a glowing tribute to his great personality.
H. Abdur Raqeeb, Trustee, Human Welfare Foundation, and Chairman, Indian Centre for Islamic Finance (ICIF) addressing the gathering said that he had the opportunity to work with Prof K A Siddique Hassan for five decades in different capacities.
“Prof. Siddique Hassan was an admirer of talents, and took them along and always paved the way for them to serve the society,” H. Abdul Raqeeb said.
“Under Vision 2026, he envisioned and established many NGOs. Professor Siddique Hassan’s dream was to explore the potential and immense opportunities in the community and make it beneficial for the upliftment of the marginalized sections,” He added.
Abdul Jabbar Siddiqui, Trustee, Human Welfare Foundation, on this occasion, announced the future projects of Vision 2026.
A new award has been instituted for NGOs and Social Engineers. The Best NGO and Best Social Engineer Award’ will be given to an NGO and an individual, selected by the jury, who are doing well in the social and humanitarian sector with a cash award of Rs. 500,000 and Rs. 100,000 respectively.
Announcing the projects, he said, “Fifteen years ago today, under the leadership of Prof. Siddique Hassan, a whole team was formed and we have come a long way learning many things. The biggest achievement of Prof. Siddique Hassan was shifting the focus of South Indian Muslims towards the North and diverting the resources. He always said that only through changing the North, India can change.”
Another important project which was announced today is an academic publication on the topic – Pragmatics of Community Empowerment in India: Contributions of Prof. K.A. Siddique Hassan. A national seminar will be organized in which researchers and academicians will present papers on various aspects of Prof K A Siddique Hassan’s interventions. The proposed publication will be an asset for the coming generations to understand and be guided by his life experiences and interventions.
Twenty-eight students pursuing various PG courses received the Prof. KA Siddique Hassan Memorial PG Scholarship. Human Welfare Foundation has launched the ‘Professor KA Siddique Hassan Memorial PG Scholarship to strengthen its educational activities and further expand the scholarship program. This scholarship will be given every year to the talented PG students in Humanities at the national level.
On this occasion, the CEO of the Human Welfare Foundation PK Noufal presented the performance report of the foundation.
