Honoring a Legacy: Alums Rally to Support Journalism Students at Jamia Millia Islamia

NEW DELHI:

New Delhi:

In a significant move to support education and empower those in need, the Professor Obaid Siddiqui Memorial Scholarship 2024 has been awarded to six incoming students of the MA Convergent Journalism (MACJ) programme at Jamia Millia Islamia.

The announcement was made by the MACJ alumni group in July 2024, ahead of the new academic session.

The MACJ programme, established in 2005 and upgraded to a two-year master’s degree in 2007, is renowned as one of the top journalism programmes in India. Named after Professor Siddiqui, a veteran journalist and the programme’s founder, the scholarship offers substantial financial aid, covering up to 75% of the tuition fee. This initiative helps alleviate the financial burdens faced by students, particularly those from less affluent backgrounds.

Since its inception in 2022, the scholarship has been a beacon of hope for students struggling with tuition and living expenses.

This year’s recipients include Nida Fatima Momin, Shoaibur Rahman, Mohammad Naiyar Azam, Adnan Ali, Saher Hiba Khan and one student who chose to remain anonymous.

The fund, totaling Rs 2.5 lakh, was raised through contributions from alumni, with an additional Rs 75,000 collected to support two more students. This financial assistance goes beyond mere support; it empowers students to pursue their academic and career aspirations without financial constraints.

Shoaibur Rahman, a recipient from Katihar, Bihar, shared his experience of overcoming financial hurdles. “I initially considered leaving the course due to financial difficulties. However, a friend informed me about this scholarship, which eased my financial worries and allowed me to continue my studies,” he explained.

His story highlights the transformative power of the scholarship in enabling students to follow their dreams.

Sidra Fatima, a student from the outgoing 2025 batch, praised the scholarship as a crucial initiative. “Not everyone can afford the high fees for a master’s degree. The scholarship provides relief to those who excel academically but face financial barriers,” she said.

Fatima hopes that in the future, more deserving students will benefit from this support.

The scholarship exemplifies how educational support can empower individuals and transform lives. It honors Professor Siddiqui’s legacy by providing not just financial assistance but also hope and confidence to students.

Raghu Kalra, a member of the scholarship selection committee and alumnus of the 2014 batch, expressed his confidence in the recipients’ future success. “These students are exemplary and will undoubtedly achieve great things in journalism.”

Alia (name changed on request), an alumnus of the 2022 batch, highlighted the scholarship’s broader impact. “Many students across various demographics face financial barriers to pursuing higher education. This scholarship addresses that gap, but it’s crucial to ensure diversity and representation in future awards,” she noted.

In a world where education is often a privilege, initiatives like the Professor Obaid Siddiqui Memorial Scholarship play a vital role in making education accessible. They demonstrate the power of collective effort, and its impact on individuals and society, inspiring a brighter and more inclusive future in journalism.

Renowned for his distinctive approach, he has redefined architectural design, particularly in the creation of mosques. His designs for these sacred spaces often include facilities like hospitals, museums, libraries, and community kitchens, showcasing his dedication to empowering the community. Through his work, Imran Abbas Shaikh has set a new standard for integrating functionality with tradition, earning widespread acclaim for his contributions to architecture.

The Early Years

Mr. Mohammad Imran Abbas Shaikh, hailing from Pune, Maharashtra, has traversed an extraordinary journey from his roots to emerge as one of the most prominent architects of our time.

His architectural firm, Cubix Architects, situated in his hometown, reflects his deep-rooted connection to the place that nurtured his talents. Growing up, Imran was distinguished by his unique approach and a penchant for creative thinking, qualities that would later define his illustrious career as a visionary architect. However, it was the unwavering support and belief of his father that truly ignited Imran’s passion. His father instilled in him the notion that architecture was not merely about envisioning structures, but about crafting an unwavering future that could bring about positive change. This paternal guidance became the driving force behind Mr. Mohammad Imran Abbas Shaikh’s relentless pursuit of architectural excellence.

Islamic School and Institutional Campus, Phaltan, Maharashtra.

Educational Background

Imran Shaikh’s educational journey was marked by a pursuit of excellence from the outset. Beginning with his early schooling split between SSPM and Children’s Academy in Shivaji Nagar, Pune, he demonstrated a thirst for knowledge and innovation. His high school years at Poona College laid the groundwork for his academic prowess, setting the stage for his subsequent achievements.

Imran’s passion for architecture led him to Bharati Vidyapeeth, where he honed his skills and emerged as a consistent topper throughout his degree. Even after completing his formal education, Imran’s dedication to his field remained unwavering. He continues to share his expertise and insights by delivering lectures and guiding Ph.D. aspirants, leaving an indelible mark as an inspirational figure for aspiring architects and youngsters alike. Inspiration Behind Choosing Architecture as Career

Imran Shaikh always had a keen interest in travelling, exploring, and various forms of art. After high school, he decided to pursue architecture as a career, a field that had always intrigued him. Imran often spoke about how his father was his biggest motivator, playing a significant role in his journey to becoming a successful architect. During Imran’s college years, his father would proudly share his accomplishments with everyone. Imran’s fondness for art and his unique, abstract perspective on things have been evident throughout his career. Each of his projects bears a distinctive touch, showcasing his artistic vision and innovative approach.

“Modern technologies have made the youth increasingly dependent, resulting in a lack of motivation and original ideas. To foster change, it is essential to reduce dependency on readymade materials and encourage wholehearted engagement in learning, exploration, and hands-on activities. As long as a person is away from mental pollution, they can do wonders”

How Does Imran Shaikh See Architecture

Imran Shaikh states that architecture is a profession that has existed since the dawn of mankind, tracing its origins back to Adam (AS). Since the beginning, people have sought shelter, making architecture an integral part of human existence. This concept is not limited to humans; some of the best architectural forms can be seen in birds and animals. According to him, architecture starts with a dot, which evolves into a line, then a triangle, and gradually forms complex shapes and designs. The journey beginning with a simple dot encapsulates the essence of architecture.

The ‘Muhammad Bin Abdullah Mosque’ in Dhannipur, Ayodhya district, Uttar Pradesh, is under construction and spans 4,500 square metres.

Ajmal Super 40 Shines Again in NEET, 2023

ASSAM:

Mumbai:

Being a medical doctor has always been a well cherished dream and a coveted profession, as it provides opportunity to save human lives. This public zeal towards the field of medicine gave rise to a number of academic institutions. Sensing the demand from students and parents, corporate sector also stepped in to provide courses for preparation of the NEET exam, as it proved to be a hugely profitable business for them. But this trend restricted the children of poor families from dreaming to become a doctor. However, some non-profitable institutions are rendering remarkable services to the nation by providing NEET coaching free or at a very low cost, like Ajmal Super-40 run by Ajmal Foundation.

Ajmal Foundation has been running this program for the last three years and its results have remarkably been improving by each year. The number of qualifying students of Ajmal Foundation in NEET exam last year was 245 which has this year increased up to 350.

This is indeed a huge gain for the Foundation, while a great hope for the underprivileged section of the society. Other institutions running on the same pattern are Shaheen of Bidar, Al-Ameen of Kolkata and Rahmani-30 of Patna.

The results for NEET 2023 were finally announced on June 13th this year. Just like every previous years, it was finely a nerve-wracking time for all the aspiring medical students who gave their best to crack this competitive exam. Among over 20 lakh applicants from across the country, half of the candidates could be declared as qualified but due to the seats limitations in the medical colleges, all passed candidates may not be the doctors they dreamed about.

The giant coaching institutions are busy celebrating the success of their toppers. But success of the non-profitable institutions should be celebrated and appreciated by common masses. Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, CEO Ajmal CSR and the philanthropic endeavours of Ajmal family, especially in the northeast of India, are laudable.

Meet Mohammed Lateef Khan, the man behind an educational revolution who produced over 6200 doctors and engineers

Hyderabad, TELANGANA:

Mohammed Abdul Lateef Khan, Founder Trustee and Chairman MS Academy. / Muslim Mirror Photo

“You are not meant for crawling, so don’t. You have wings. Learn to use them and fly,” this inspirational quote of Rumi is best suited for Mohd Abdul Lateef Khan, Chairman and managing director of Hyderabad based MS Education Academy.

His team under his leadership has successfully created a brand name in the field of education and revolutionized the concept of education across the country.

Khan is a man who believes in ‘education as a social service and moral responsibility than a profession to earn money’.

MuslimMirror spoke to Khan, exclusively. In this tete-e-tete, he spoke about his journey.

A young Khan right after finishing his 12th had a strong urge to serve the community.

Recognizing his talent, one of his friends suggested him to enter in the field of education. Hence, to materialize his dream Khan started a coaching institute that was operated from a two-room rented house and with only 15 students. This was in the year 1990.

However in the first year, Khan had to face a loss of Rs 30,000, but he did not lose his heart. He continued his journey with same vigor and subsequently during the initial three years he faced the loss of more than one lakh rupees and still he did not give up.

Khan continued to pursue his engineering course and completed his BE in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Osmania University.

During those years, his institute grasped a respected position in the area and people started trusting his institute. This boosted his morale and gave him confidence.

After completing his engineering degree, Khan thought of pursuing his studies in a foreign country but later changed his mind.

He decided to continue his journey in the field of education.

In 1998, Khan collaborated with renowned Urdu daily, Siasat, which started publishing model SSC exam papers which was widely accepted and became an instant hit. It resulted in popularizing his method of education and unique technique to crack medical and engineering examinations.

(HERE WHAT IS THE POPULAR TECHNIQUE HE USED AND HOW COME HIS TECHNIQUE BECAME A HIT IS MISSING!)

Later with the support of Zaheeruddin Ali Khan, the managing editor of the newspaper he shifted the institute to a bigger space. It was Zaheeruddin Ali Khan who inaugurated the first branch of MS Academy. After that Lateef Khan never looked back and the popularity of his coaching institute continued to soar by each passing day.

Two years later, Khan started to look out for a school for his son but in vain. Unable to find any such, later in the year 2000 he opened his own school and named it MS Academy, with the aim to facilitate thousands of children with education.

Khan introduced the junior school (intermediate) in the year 2002; they successfully produced their first batch in 2004, while their second batch (2005) grabbed the first position in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Later, the then chief minister of the state visited the school and decided to declare four percent reservation for the Muslim minority.

While interacting with Muslimmirror.com, Khan said, “Since 2005 our academy has continued to remain in the top ten list of the state board. In our academy, we admit a student on the basis of his or her merit performance and not by asking for any donation.”

“Currently, MS academy has 80 branches in 20 cities across eight different states with more than 27000 students enrolled. We have produced over 1200 MBBS doctors , 5000 engineers and shaped the life of 78000 youths who are alumni of our institutes, Only this year 150 students from our institutions cracked NEET ” he added.

Explaining further, he said “We never invested in purchasing of land or any property. We never focused on that, we have continued to run our educational institutes in rented spaces which is our uniqueness.”

Khan’s academy also has focused on modern and Islamic education. On this he said, “We stress on imbibing Islamic moral and values to shape the personalities that can lead tomorrow. Islamic environment facilitates Muslim students to compete and turn them into achievers.”

Khan, is a pioneer in integrating Modern and Islamic Education with academic excellence.

A certified mind map instructor and an international memory trainer, he is a visionary entrepreneur, positive thinker, an able administrator and a good decision maker.

A firm believer in team work Khan has a team of reliable professionals who are committed to achieve the vision Khan shared and inculcate the spirit of generative thinking, creativity, positive approach and mind mapping.

He devised many innovative methods to help students excel in competitive exams and face real life challenges. He also designed and introduced Memory Curriculum in Schooling that helps students learn ‘How to Learn and Remember’.

In Khan, one can definitely see Sir Syed and his thoughts!
