In the small town of Kandhar, Nanded courage takes an unusual form. Muhammad Talib, a young man known as the “Snake Friend,” has earned respect for his rare mission—saving both snakes and people from harm. While most run from the sight of a snake, Talib runs toward it.
Trained in snake handling, Talib learned how to catch venomous snakes safely without injuring them. He relocates the reptiles to the forest instead of killing them. Despite dealing with dangerous species, he has never been bitten. His belief is simple: every creature has a right to live.
People in Kandhar admire his bravery and call him whenever a snake appears in homes, offices, or schools. Instead of fear, his name brings comfort. Smiling, Talib says that his work reflects the true spirit of Islam, which teaches kindness and protection for all living beings.
“I see this as an act of goodwill,” he explains. “When I save snakes from humans and humans from snakes, I am doing khair, the good that Islam calls for.”
For the people of Kandhar, Muhammad Talib is more than a snake catcher. He is a reminder that courage is not about destroying what we fear, but about understanding it.

Dr Shahnawaz Ahmed Malik, Assistant Professor, Department of Law, Aligarh Muslim University Malappuram Centre, Kerala, has been conferred the AMP National Award for Educational Excellence 2025 by the Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP) in recognition of his distinguished contribution to legal education and institutional development.
The award was presented during the AMP National Awards Felicitation Ceremony 2025, held at Anwarul Uloom College, Hyderabad, in the presence of AMP President Aamir Idrisi and several eminent educationists and community leaders.
Dr. Malik, who has been associated with AMU Malappuram Centre since 2013, has played a key role in developing its Department of Law. He has established several academic and professional societies to promote advocacy skills among students and contributed to enhancing the Centre’s academic profile.
His teaching and research focus on Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Human Rights, and Legal Theory. He has also served as a member of the AMU Court and Academic Council and currently holds the positions of Deputy Proctor and Coordinator, Department of Law, at the AMU Malappuram Centre.

In the heart of Chhattisgarh, where challenges of illiteracy, alcoholism, and crimes against women cast long shadows over communities, a remarkable force has emerged to rewrite the narrative. In the villages of Gunderdehi region, groups of women wearing maroon berets stand as a testament to resilience, empowerment, and the unwavering spirit of change. This is the brigade of Mahila Commandos, a force initiated in 2006 by the indomitable Shamshad Begum, an activist and Padma Shri recipient.
The journey began with a stark reality: women voicing the anguish of living in households marred by alcohol abuse, domestic violence, and the perils of substance abuse engulfing their children. The Mahila Commandos emerged as a response to this cry for change. Shamshad Begum, the founder and guiding force behind this brigade, transformed the pain of these women into a movement that has since become synonymous with hope, empowerment, and courage.
Shamshad Begum’s vision reached beyond the constraints of societal norms, and the Mahila Commandos became the embodiment of strength and resilience. From homemakers to labourers, these women found a new identity in the title of “Mahila Commando.” Voluntarily patrolling their villages at night, they became the frontline warriors against fights, gambling, and substance abuse, tirelessly combating domestic violence, dowry, female foeticide, and gender discrimination.
What sets the Mahila Commandos apart is their commitment to creating a safer and more just society. Recognizing the importance of their mission, the Chhattisgarh Police conferred the title of Special Police Officer to 200 Mahila Commandos as a testament to their dedication and to the impact they’ve had.
Beyond their role as guardians of societal norms, the Mahila Commandos have also extended their impact to education and economic empowerment. They have reached out to help over 9,000 underprivileged girls with their education. The Mahila Commandos also engage in economic activities, producing and selling items like cow dung diyas, leaf plates and vermicompost, in addition to cultivating flowers and engaging in agricultural work.
Shamshad Begum’s transformative work goes beyond the immediate impact on families. Under her guidance the Mahila Commandos have helped form 5,000 self-help groups, empowering 75,000 women with an outstanding 98% loan recovery rate from banks. A movement that began with a hundred women has now blossomed into a movement involving 65,000 women across 14 districts of Chhattisgarh. The Mahila Commandos are not just protectors; they are catalysts for change. Shamshad Begum’s vision, courage, and determination have created a network of empowered women who refuse to be silent spectators to the challenges that plague their communities.

In recent years, he has appeared in hundreds of Chhattisgarhi songs and albums, many of which have gone viral on YouTube and other platforms, such as the “Ditto Karan Khan Mona Sen” album.
Born Syed Tahir Ali, Karan Khan worked from cinema and music to broaden his reach and fan base. He has been a strong advocate of raising production quality in the regional films. Mir Ali Mir: Poetic genius
When you hear the lines “Nanda jahi ka re… kamra au khumari, araitutari…” one name instantly comes to mind: Mir Ali Mir. His real name is Syed Ayyub Ali Mir, but in the world of literature, he is popularlyknown as Mir Ali Mir. Famous for expressing deep thoughts about life in simple words, his ghazals portray love, longing and life’s contradictions, while his Chhattisgarhi compositions are steeped in the fragrance of folk life.
Chhattisgarh has always been fertile ground for literature, art and culture, and Meer Ali Meer carries this legacy forward. His writings strengthen the pride of the Chhattisgarhi language and give voice to the pain, struggles and sensitivities of common people. Born on 15March 1953 in Kawardha, Meer Ali Meer enriched the Chhattisgarhi language and gave it a new identity.He is not only a poet but also an indefatigable promoter of Chhattisgarhi literature, actively working to connect younger generations with the region’s poetry and verse.
Aijaz Dhebar: transforming Raipur
The story of Chhattisgarh’s transformation is incomplete without the mention of Aijaz Dhebar’s name. He is more than just the mayor of Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh; he is a symbol of struggle, commitment and secular politics.
Born in a modest Muslim family in Maulana Abdul Rauf Ward of the Old Raipur, Dhebar helped run his household while pursuing his education. “My circumstances didn’t hold me back; they propelled me forward,” he often says. In January 2020, he was elected Mayor of Raipur Municipal Corporation, defeating his opponent, Mrityunjay Dubey. “I never considered myself a representative of just one religion,” he says. Recognising his leadership, he was appointed National Vice-President of the All India Mayors Council—the first mayor from Chhattisgarh to hold this post. His message to youth: “Don’t waste your energy on hatred and negativity. Politics and society today need constructive, innovative young people.”
Dr.Saleem Raj: Restructuring Waqf Board
Dr.Saleem Raj stands tall among a few who have played a crucial role in Chhattisgarh’s minority politics and social reform movement. A long-time member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Raj serves as Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Waqf Board, a position with cabinet rank.
His rise is not just a story of political success but of a man determined to transform religious institutions from centres of controversy into engines of social and national development. “Religious institutions should be partners in the nation’s progress, not centres of disputes,” he often says. Raj joined the BJP in 1992 and steadily rose through the ranks, serving at district, state and national levels in the party’s Minority Morcha. From 2016 to 2020, he chaired the state Minority Morcha, earning a reputation for Muslim outreach and consensus-building.

Dr Shams Parvez: Keeping air clean
Professor Dr Shams Parvez guides students and the public with an approach that blends scientific rigour with social responsibility. An expert in air pollution, environmental health and chemistry, Dr Parvez is one of the few scientists in Chhattisgarh to link academic research with societal needs.
His extensive studies on changing air quality in Raipur and surrounding areas have given policymakers a solid scientific basis for interventions. Defined by simplicity, rigour and dedication to students, he is a key figure in Chhattisgarh’s academic landscape for environmental protection. His research has been published in numerous national and international journals, informing state environmental policies and public health programmes. Collaborations with prestigious institutions such as NASA and the Chinese Academy of Sciences reflect the high quality of his work, through which he has led multimillion-dollar projects.
Dr Abbas Naqvi: Building a Medical Centre with a Human Touch
Dr Abbas Naqvi is a prominent name in Raipur’s healthcare sector. He is not just any other doctor but is known for his unmatched dedication, honesty and an unshakeable spirit of service. Dr Naqvi is among a select few who take their profession not just as a career but as a means to serve society.
In 2004, Dr Naqvi founded Ramkrishna Hospital, which has become one of Chhattisgarh’s leading multi-speciality healthcare centres. She is the driving force behind the women’s commando movement.
Her journey began in the small town of Balod, where she witnessed firsthand the obstacles women faced. “If I ever get the chance, I will work for women’s education and empowerment,” she resolved. Coming from a modest family, she drew inspiration from her mother, Aamna Bee, who balanced work and education to ensure all six of her children studied. Her impact was nationally recognised when she was included in the list of 100 Muslim women honoured for their role in India’s development.
Faisal Rizvi: A Lawyer with an Unyielding Sense of Justice
Faisal Rizvi has made his nameas a leading criminal lawyer in Raipur. His arguments, cross-examination skills and strong command of legal intricacies have made him one of Chhattisgarh’s most respected legal figures.
From a young age, Rizvi displayed keen observation and a natural inclination towards law, with a deep interest in social issues and legal awareness. Understanding the importance of nurturing the next generation of lawyers, he has distributed more than10,000 books on the Indian Penal Code and Constitution to law students in memory of his father. The Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP) hosted its 5th National Awards for Social Excellence (NASE) 2025 at Anwar-ul-Uloom College, Hyderabad, celebrating changemakers and institutions shaping social progress across India. The event, attended by more than 300 participants, honoured outstanding contributions in education, social welfare, and humanitarian service.
Ayat Education and Welfare Foundation from Kothagudem, Telangana, led by Dr Ayesha Sultana, won the Best NGO Award of the Year (State). In a short span, the foundation has impacted over 7,500 lives through education, women empowerment, and welfare programs. It offers academic and Qur’anic education, youth training in soft skills, and guidance for careers and personal growth. The foundation also provides medical aid, food relief, and disaster assistance. Its women’s online education program, which reached 1,500 learners in one year, was highlighted as a model of empowerment.
Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, Chairman of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), graced the ceremony as Chief Guest and felicitated awardees for their service to society. Prominent figures from academia, government, and civil society, including officials from the Telangana Waqf Board and retired IPS officers, attended the event.
AMP also recognized 10 national awardees such as Human Welfare Foundation, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind Public Trust, and Sahayata Trust.
Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to philanthropist Ghiasuddin Babukhan, educationist Dr P. A. Inamdar, and retired IPS officer Mohammad Wazir Ansari.
The event also marked the launch of AMP’s National Talent Search (NTS) 2025, expected to engage over two lakh students nationwide.

Maulvi Liaquat Ali Qadri was born on October 15, 1817, in the village of Mehndauri, Chail Pargana, Allahabad district, to Syed Meer Ali and Aamna Bibi. He was a revered religious figure of his time, embodying the spirit of both spiritual and national liberation. During that era, Islamic scholars viewed the country’s independence and religious freedom as inseparable causes. This conviction led a significant number of religious scholars to participate in the Indian Rebellion of 1857, many of whom attained martyrdom in their fight for freedom.
Maulvi Liaquat Ali was a simple man deeply connected to the struggles of the common people in his region. He was acutely aware of the hardships faced by the masses under British colonial rule. Alongside his profound religious knowledge, he harbored an intense passion for liberating his country from the shackles of foreign oppression. Leading a life of piety and integrity, he consistently advised others to uphold honesty, empathy, and mutual support in times of distress. He considered it the duty of every Indian to strive for the nation’s independence.
The Rebellion in Allahabad
Following widespread looting and arson, Allahabad fell under the control of the rebel Indian forces. Maulvi Liaquat Ali, accompanied by a large number of his followers, threw himself into the struggle against British rule. Seizing the opportunity, he declared jihad against the British, galvanizing thousands to join the fight. Under his leadership, the people of Allahabad (now Prayagraj) united to drive the British out of the city. Maulvi Liaquat Ali delivered a powerful message of unity to both Hindus and Muslims from a public platform in Allahabad. In his sermon, he emphasized, “We are all one. Together, we must confront the foreigners.” With this spirit of unity, he proclaimed the establishment of an independent government in the region and hoisted the flag of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal emperor.
The British were not only plundering India’s wealth but also subjecting its people to relentless oppression. Beyond economic exploitation, Christian missionaries, backed by colonial authorities, were attacking India’s religious traditions and sacred texts. They propagated Christianity while attempting to demean Hindu and Muslim scriptures.
Unable to tolerate these affronts, Maulvi Liaquat Ali organized a massive public gathering on June 7, 1857, at Khusro Bagh in Allahabad. The event drew a large number of patriotic Hindus and Muslims. In a fiery speech, he condemned the British for their atrocities, including looting, arson, and desecration of holy texts. Declaring that such oppressors could not be tolerated, he called for jihad against the “sinners.” His impassioned address stirred the hearts of the audience, who were already exasperated by the British’s sacrilegious actions.
Under his leadership, a week-long uprising against the British began on June 9, 1857. Rebels set fire to British bungalows, inflicted casualties, and damaged government property. The widespread unrest created panic among the colonial authorities. However, the British retaliated with heavy shelling and arson, driven by a desire for vengeance. Entire settlements were razed, forcing residents to flee their homes. Maulvi Liaquat Ali, too, was compelled to leave Allahabad and sought refuge in Kanpur.
A Champion of Communal Harmony
Maulvi Liaquat Ali was a firm advocate of Hindu-Muslim unity and cooperation, despite his opposition to Christian missionaries, whose actions, fuelled by colonial arrogance, insulted Indian religions and scriptures. He was among the few leaders who demonstrated through their revolutionary actions that they were fully aware of the socio-political realities of their time. The British, he believed, were not only exploiting India’s resources but also undermining its social fabric. He tirelessly worked to counter their divisive tactics, raising his voice for the dignity of women, religious communities, and the upper classes, earning widespread admiration for his efforts.
Despite his religious persona, Maulvi Liaquat Ali was always ready to take risks for the sake of his country and faith. He never feared for his life or shied away from potential losses. His revolutionary activities were driven by a singular goal: to free India from British rule and rid the sacred land of their oppressive presence. When a Muslim shrine, Bakhtiar Bakhtiyar, and the Telegraph Band were seized by the British, Muslim youths fought to protect them, resulting in losses on both sides. Clashes between Indian rebels and British forces continued across various regions, making it increasingly difficult for the British to maintain their grip on India.
A Lifelong Struggle for Freedom
Maulvi Liaquat Ali swore to dedicate his life to the cause of India’s independence. After leaving Allahabad, he moved to Muzaffarnagar, a stronghold of the freedom struggle, where he joined other revolutionaries. His authority was such that no orders were issued without his approval. Whenever British forces attempted to suppress the rebellion, Maulvi Liaquat Ali, alongside another freedom fighter, Azimullah, embarked on a perilous journey on foot toward Gujarat. Despite facing numerous hardships along the way, they reached their destination and launched guerrilla warfare against the British. For years, their tactics kept the colonial administration on edge.
According to Rakesh Verma, technical assistant at the Regional Archives, “Administrative records written in Urdu titled Naksha Bagiyan Kotwali Allahabad, listing police constables who forcibly took their salaries for May and June 1857 and participated in the revolt, including Hanuman Prasad, Imdad Ali, Ashraf Ali, etc. were hung by Major Henry Court on July 14, 1857,” (From the HT)
The British resorted to various conspiracies to capture him, but Maulvi Liaquat Ali’s stature among freedom fighters only grew. He continued to plan large- and small-scale operations against the British, opening new fronts in the fight for independence.
Imprisonment and Legacy
Ultimately, the Allahabad court sentenced Maulvi Liaquat Ali to life imprisonment in the Andaman Islands, infamously known as “Kala Pani.” Enduring the harsh conditions of imprisonment, this brave son of India passed away on May 17, 1892, bidding farewell to his beloved homeland and the world.
Maulvi Liaquat Ali Qadri’s sacrifices for India’s freedom struggle remain an enduring legacy. His contributions must be remembered and celebrated as an inspiration for future generations, reflecting the indomitable spirit of a man who fought tirelessly for his country’s liberation.
Government Degree College for Women, Khodmukhtar, hosted a special felicitation programme to honour students for their outstanding academic achievements. The event was organised by the Emirate-e-Millat Islamia Education Committee and Bazm-e-Urdu Adab, Jagtial.
The ceremony was presided over by Principal Professor Rama Krishna. Distinguished guests included Muhammad Abdul Bari, President of Emirate-e-Millat Islamia, Liaquat Ali Mohsin, President of Bazm-e-Urdu Adab, and Muhammad Munemuddin, President of the Education Committee.
Eight students who secured first positions in their respective degree courses were awarded medals, mementoes, and certificates. The awardees were Asna Takreem, Shifa Sadaf, Mehdi Falak, Umm Khadija, Aafia Sultana, Zeba Firdous, Nasira Begum, and Samira Sultana.
A speech competition on the topic “Role of Muslims in the Freedom Movement” was also held. Rimsha Fatima won the first prize of Rs. 3000. Samina Sultana secured second place with Rs. 2000, while Samiya Sania took third place with Rs. 1000.
In addition, students Hajra Maheen, Areeba Shahwar, and Nahanaz, who achieved excellent ranks in Urdu in the Telangana State Common Post Graduation Entrance Test, were honoured with shawls, medals, and mementoes.
The event was conducted by Urdu lecturer Qasim Ali. Faculty members Muhammad Abdul Rahim, Yasmin Sultana, Irfana Begum, and Satyam were present, along with Education Committee members Sheikh Naseem Ahmed, Muhammad Sajid Patwari, and Iftikhar Hussain.
The programme highlighted the role of community organisations in encouraging education and celebrating student achievements.

The All India Ideal Teachers Association (AIITA) Unit Mangrol, district Baran, Rajasthan, organized the Ideal Teacher Award 2025 to honor the contributions of educators in the community. The event brought together teachers, dignitaries, and residents to recognize the vital role of teachers in shaping students and society.
Applications were invited from educators across schools and madrasas. A seven-member committee evaluated candidates based on moral character, punctuality, religious integrity, contribution to student development, social engagement, and community impact. After a rigorous selection process, ten educators were chosen for recognition. They were awarded certificates, shields, and medals. The awardees included Rafiq Ahmad, Ejaz Hussain, Mohammad Iqbal, Fakhruddin (Siswali), Tarannum Parveen, Mohammad Saleem (Principal, Madrasa Suiwalan), Mohammad Irfan (Anjuman Madrasa), Meraj Ahmad, Wahid Anwar, and Rizwana Kausar.
A highlight of the ceremony was the Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Tahir Hussain for his decades of service to education. His work was described as leaving a lasting impact on the community and inspiring both teachers and students.
The event was attended by prominent figures including AIITA State President Khalid Akhtar, who spoke on the moral and social responsibilities of teachers, and Media Secretary Dr. Raheem Khan, who encouraged the use of technology in classrooms. State Secretary Yunus Ansari and other guests also expressed appreciation for the teaching community.
The program concluded with words of thanks from Unit Secretary Haider Ali Ansari and Unit President Mohammad Irfan. The ceremony reinforced the value of education and highlighted the role of teachers as community leaders.

The father-son duo Kayalpattinam native Shaikh Sadaqathullah (now a resident of Mannady in Chennai), a peace activist, HAM radio operator and blood donor and Shaikh Shamsudeen were honoured by the Malaysia Consul General K Saravana Kumar with a certificate of appreciation during the flag raising ceremony to commemorate the 68th Independence Day celebrations on Aug 31 at Consulate General of Malaysia located at Cenotaph Road in Teynampet neighbourhood, Chennai Metro.
Service to humanity is a core principle in Islam. It emphasises kindness, compassion, and charity towards all individuals, regardless of their faith, colour, race or background. This principle is well-supported by various references from the Holy Qur’an and Hadith, illustrating the importance of helping others and fostering a harmonious society.
Islam places a high value on the preservation and saving of human life. The Holy Qur’an states, وَمَنْ أَحْيَاهَا فَكَأَنَّمَا أَحْيَا النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا (“And whoever saves a life (gives life to one) – it shall be as if he had saved (given life to) mankind entirely.” – Chapter 5 Verse 32. No doubt, blood donation is an act of kindness, charity, and assistance to others, and is highly rewarded in Islam. It is also a form of relieving others’ distress, which aligns perfectly with Islamic tenets and teachings and is considered a virtuous act in Islam.

Interestingly, the Almighty has gifted both the father and son with a rare blood group of AB Negative. While Shaikh Sadaqathullah had donated blood 53 times since 1993, starting from saving a patient Narayana for the latter’s heart surgery at Perambur Railway Hospital and his son Shaikh Shamsudeen had saved lives by donating 20 times since 2016. Notably, they were invited by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin to his chamber and appreciated them for their noble gesture.
It may be noted that Shaikh Sadaqathullah received recognition from Tamil Nadu State Branch of Indian Medical Association (IMA) with Dr M S Ashraf award under non-medical category during National Doctor’s Day fete held in Chennai (2022). A proud moment for him as he received the award from Dr J Radhakrishnan, former State Health Secretary and presently chairman and managing director of Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (formerly TANGEDCO). A commendation certificate and a shield were presented to him on the occasion.
As a peace activist, Shaikh Sadaqathullah played an active role in taking part in communal harmony events held in Chennai city sending a strong message of Mother Teresa – “We can do no great things – only small things with great love. He was closely associated with leading luminaries like Late Dr. B.S. Abdur Rahman, founder of United Economic Forum and All India Islamic Foundation, Dr. S.K. Khadri, Founder – Murthuzaviya Educational and Cultural Foundation of South India, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali, Prince of Arcot, Founder Secretary-General – Harmony India and L.K.S. Syed Ahmed, Past District Governor – Lions District 324-A1, Managing Partner – L.K.S. Gold House.
To be precise, Shaikh Sadaqathullah makes it a point to attend almost all the communal harmony functions fostering Universal Brotherhood for peaceful coexistence among different faiths. It is a matter of great pride for him to get the recognition from Malaysia Consul General during the nation’s 68th Independence Day. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “If one removes a hardship of a Muslim in this life, Allah will relieve a hardship from him on the Day of Judgment”. True to the words of wisdom, Shaikh Sadaqathullah and his son Shaikh Shamsudeen are doing yeomen services to the cause of Mankind.
