MCC Commissioner takes charge

Kalaburagi / Mysuru, KARNATAKA :

Mysuru:

Shaikh Tanveer Asif, a 2017 batch IAS Officer of Karnataka cadre, took charge as the new Commissioner of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC)  from outgoing Commissioner Ashaad-Ur-Rahman Shariff, who has been transferred, at the MCC Office on Sayyaji Rao Road here this morning.

Speaking on the occasion, Asif said he was happy to get an opportunity to serve in Mysuru, known as cultural and heritage capital of the State.

Pointing out that his first priority is to improve basic infrastructure of the city and betterment  of civic and utility services, he said prominence will be given for proper maintenance of parks and regular management and disposal of all sorts of wastes and garbage generated in city.

Highlighting that the co-operation of sub-ordinates, other staff and elected representatives is crucial for meeting the objectives and goals of MCC in the best possible way, Asif hoped that Mysuru will blossom into a more prosperous city and regain the ‘Cleanest City’ tag which the city had bagged a couple of times earlier. He further said that he would give his best for bringing honour to MCC and the Government.

Two women who broke glass ceiling among six Karnataka railway employees to bag national award

Bengaluru :

Six railway employees in Karnataka have been selected to receive the 65th annual Railway National Award from the Railway Ministry, a much coveted honour billed as a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunity. They are part of the 139 awardees across the country for the financial year ending March 2020.

Their names were belatedly announced on November 5 due to the COVID crisis and the ceremony in which Railway Minister Piyush Goyal will present the awards is likely to be a virtual one. Three of them, including two women employees, were chosen for their outstanding performance in the Bengaluru Railway Division. Another official belongs to the Central Railway Workshop in Mysuru while two work at Yelahanka’s Rail Wheel Factory of Indian Railways.

According to Bengaluru Divisional Railway Manager A K Verma,  “This is the highest recognition any railway employee can get in their career. It is a massive achievement as the four awardees in South Western Railway had to compete with a 37,000-strong railway workforce in the Zone.”

The two women officers have been pioneers in their fields in the Bengaluru Division. Senior Divisional Operations Manager, Geeta Mohapatra, who has recently moved over to the Railway Recruitment Board as Member Secretary, is the the only woman to have taken over the helm of train operations in the choked rail network of Bengaluru.

Delighted to be recognised, Mohapatra told The New Indian Express, “We do not work for awards but it feels really good to be recognised. Makes you feel very confident about your work.” During her tenure here, she was instrumental in speeding up trains, maintaining punctuality of Passenger, Mail and Express trains. The commencement of the Baiyappanahalli new coaching terminal, opening of two freight terminals and despatch of cars of KIA Motors from Penukonda to North India, which have boosted the revenue of the division, figure among her achievements.

K Puja is the Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer in the division. She was the first woman to join as a Junior Electrical Engineer in the division in 2009 and has moved up the ranks. The division was the first in the country to meet the target fixed by the Railway Board for installation of escalators at railway stations and she headed the team which installed six of them. “It feels great. This is once-in-a-lifetime recognition at the highest level. I have had a very smooth career as my bosses were very supportive throughout,” she said.

The awardees from Yelahanka’s RWF are C Prabhakar, Senior Section Engineer, and G Venkatesh, Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer, Planning, who was awarded for his performance in his previous job as professor at Indian Railway Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in Jamalpur.

Arif Hafeez took charge as Guntur Urban SP on at the district police office on Wednesday.

Speaking on this occasion, he said that police officials are ready to work for people and sought cooperation of the people to strictly implement the curfew in the district.

He recalled that he worked in Guntur district and have idea about the Guntur district. He said he would try to check illegal transport of ganja, liquor and banned gutka.

The new SP thanked Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Director General of Police for posting him as Guntur Urban SP.

President Droupadi Murmu confers Best Electoral Practices Award to Kalaburagi DC Fouzia Taranum

Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum was honoured with an award for adopting the Best Election Practices Award for 2024-25.

President Droupadi Murmu presented the award to the officer in the presence of Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, and Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu at Maekshaw Centre Auditorium in New Delhi on National Voters Day on Saturday, a day before the 76th Republic Day.

Ms. Taranum was among the 22 recipients of Best Electoral Practices awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions to election management, security management, voter education and inclusivity. The awards recognised exceptional contributions across multiple categories in election management for the 2024 Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections held in 2024.

Best Performing State Award was given to CEOs of Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra. Government Departments like NIC, Railways, and Petroleum Ministry were also lauded for voter awareness and logistical support. Media awards acknowledged Radio Mirchi and Doordarshan for impactful election campaigns.

Ms. Taranum was among the 11 officers from across the country who received the award in the General Category and the only one in Karnataka.

CM’s Political Secretary Naseer Ahmed visits Ajman Ruler’s Court, Thumbay Medicity

Karnataka Legislative Council member and Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Naseer Ahmed, visited the Ajman Ruler’s Court and Thumbay Medicity, strengthening ties between Karnataka and the UAE.

At the Ruler’s Court, Ahmed met Sheikh Dr. Majid bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Ruler’s Court, to discuss avenues for collaboration in healthcare, education, and research. He extended an invitation to Sheikh Majid to visit Bengaluru and proposed a future delegation of high-level officials from Karnataka to Ajman and Thumbay Medicity.

As part of the visit, Ahmed toured Thumbay Medicity’s state-of-the-art healthcare, medical education, and research facilities. Praising the institution’s achievements, he described it as a global hub for healthcare excellence.

Auto driver’s daughter Ayesha Ansari cracks MP civil services exam

Till recently whenever the 45-year-old Muslim Ansari drove his autorickshaw through the officers’ colony of the city, he was overawed by the luxurious bungalows. He visualized living in one of these houses with his family.

His dream is about to come true as his daughter is on the verge of becoming a Deputy Collector and being entitled to such an official accommodation in the Officers’ colony.

In the recent result of the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission examination, Ayesha Ansari of Rewa district has secured 12th rank in the state.

She has been selected for the post of Deputy Collector. Her success is being celebrated across the district. Although she is yet to get orders for her posting, her family is already looking at good days.

Ayesha Ansari was born in a middle-class Muslim family. Her father, Muslim Ansari put in all his efforts to make his daughter’s dream come true. Ayesha credits her parents for her success. She says that her father used to walk every morning through the Police Line Colony and read the nameplates of officers living in the bungalows.

Her father manifested and visualized a big future for her daughter and his dream has come true.

Ansari often told his daughter, “I wish someone in our family had a big bungalow to his name.”

Wanting to make her father proud, Ayesha focused on her education and decided to make his dream come true.

Ayesha Ansari believes success comes only with dedication and hard work. She never joined any coaching class.For the preparations, Ayesha used her mobile phone to access study material and did a home study.

He said he worked hard to provide for his family and ensure that Ayesha got everything she needed for her important examinations and education.

Muslim Ansari says, “I had no idea about the civil services, but always dreamt of my daughter getting a good position.”

Ansari says he drove his auto rickshaw even when he was ill so that his daughter’s studies were not affected.

Ayesha Ansari’s success has sent a wave of joy in her family and neighbourhood. There is a beeline of people outside their house with everyone wanting to meet and congratulate Ayesha.

Ayesha believes that the youth should leave no stone unturned in their hard work and keep trying to secure their goals. She asks them to stay away from social media and distractions.

Muslim Ansari said, he never thought that his daughter would reach such high a high point in her life.

“Our life was full of struggle, but now we can proudly say that our daughter has achieved this feat with her hard work.”

Ayesha who belongs to the marginalised Pasmanda community has thus become a sources of inspiration for many who otherwise believed that lack of resources was an impediment to their drowth and realisation of their dreams.

Maulana Ammar Hasani Nadwi Appointed Nazim-e-Aam of Nadwatul Ulama

Following the sad demise of Maulana Jafar Masood Hasani Nadwi, the position of Nazim-e-Aam (General Manager) of Nadwatul Ulama had fallen vacant. In a unanimous decision, the Majlis-e-Nizam (Governing Council) has appointed Maulana Ammar Abdul Ali Hasani Nadwi to the esteemed role.

Maulana Ammar is the son of the renowned Islamic scholar and journalist Maulana Muhammad Hasani and the younger brother of Maulana Abdullah Hasani Nadwi. He has been serving as the head of Madrasa Mazhar-ul-Islam, a significant branch of Nadwatul Ulama located in Balochpura here for a considerable time.

The Nadwi community has extended heartfelt congratulations to Maulana Ammar on his appointment. They expressed their confidence that, under his leadership, the institution will continue to progress and flourish.

Prayers were also offered for the institution’s protection from envy and hypocrisy, seeking Allah’s guidance and support for its continued growth and prosperity.

MANUU honours five persons from Hyderabad as ‘Sitara-e-Urdu’

Urdu lovers exist and MANUU will bring them to its platform and honour them, said Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU).

He was honoring five eminent personalities from Hyderabad as “Sitara-e-Urdu” (Doyens of Urdu). The university presented Lakshmi Devi Raj,  Syed Jafar Amir Rizvi, Shahid Husain Zuberi, Oudesh Rani Bawa and Mazhar uz Zaman Khan with a memento, a shawl, and a flower plant in recognition of their contribution towards Urdu language, literature and culture on Monday.

The ‘Sitara-e-Urdu’ programme was organized by Centre for Urdu Culture Studies on the occasion of Teacher’s Day at CPDUMT auditorium.

Jamia Hamdard established the Asian Federation of Societies for Alternatives to Animal Experiments

The valedictory function of the 4th Asian Congress for Alternatives to Animal Experiments held at Jamia Hamdard Convention Centre where Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard was the Chief Guest of the programme.

Organizing secretary Prof. S. Raisuddin informed that this congress is being held for the first time in India. During this congress the founding members of the society and representatives from India, China, Japan, and South Korea signed a joint declaration to establish the Asian Federation of Societies for Alternatives to Animal Experiments (AFSAAE).

Well-wishers from societies working for alternatives from America, Europe, and Sri Lanka also wished good link to the foundation. All the representatives were felicitated by the Organizing Secretary. Prof. Y.K. Gupta and Dr. M. A. Akbarsha graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.

Prof. Y. K. Gupta urged the scientists to understand the pain of Animals while using them for scientific experiments.

Dr. Akbarsha announced the next meeting to be held at Hyderabad. Prof. Raisuddin presented a detailed report of 3 days deliberations during the conference. He also announced various awards for best presentations by young scientists. Dr. Christian Pellevoisin, Scientific Director, MatTek & CEO Urbilateria France sponsored best poster presentation awards and cash prizes to the budding scientists. Dr. Kristie Sullivan, Vice President, Education and Outreach, Institute for In Vitro Sciences, USA and Prof Winfried Neuhaus, member of the Austrian Commission for Animal Experimentation also appreciated the successful organization of the Congress.

Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor congratulated the Organising committee members for the successful organisation of the conference. He appreciated the patronage of Janab Hammad Ahmed, Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard and financial support of Hamdard National Foundation along with other funding agencies for enabling Jamia Hamdard to develop alternative models of animal experiments.

Programme ended with vote of thanks by the Organising Secretary and National Anthem.
